Is this ZT 0801CF edge funny? Pics included

Hi Guys,

Wanted to start by saying I'm new to the forums here, but I've been learning a lot from reading the posts here. So a big thanks to everyone.

So onto the topic: I have an opportunity to pick up a zt801cf. The seller has provided some high quality photos and I noticed that the grind on the edge isn't even on the side with the serial number. I've included a picture of the blade close up along with a few other pictures I was given.

This knife was advertised as new and never sharpened. Also, no big deal, but is it just me or is the finish near the pivot on the non clip side fading? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Churry

I think for the sake of the seller and his sanity, you shouldn't buy it.

There's nothing wrong with that knife and it sounds like you are already pre-priming yourself for buyers remorse.

It's a production knife and sometimes the edges aren't perfect. Sure, it's limited, but it's still made on a production line.

The "finish fading" is just oil or finger prints.

I agree with Scurvy, though, if you're already picking it apart, don't buy it and move on.

+1

Making a mountian from a mole hill.

The edge will sharpen and the "fading" is probably a photo/lighting issue.

Haha, thanks for the thoughts! I do have to admit that am pretty nit-picky about things I buy, esp when I spend a nice chunk of change. Just wanted to make sure it looked good and wanted input from more knowledgeable folks.

Sorry if anyone felt this was a waste of time. :(

I understand your trepidation. There are many folks around here who obsess over little details like that.

It's a beautiful knife and I know it doesn't come cheap, so ask away. Hell, if you want you can email the seller just to confirm if the pivot area has oil or if he can send another pic.

Thanks, Grownstar. Don't think I have any other questions than that. I figure that those pics have had enough eyes to look them over and someone would of mentioned something off if it existed. Though I will contact the seller and ask about the pivot...even if its not a huge deal.

Anytime. Also, be sure and use the hell out of it, asuming you get it.

That knife is too awesome to sit in a safe.

The edge could be resharpened pretty easily to get that little dip out of it. That is if you're really set on it. Great knives for the $. Ask the seller to knock some $ off

You would hope and rather expect for a knife this costly to have a bit more put in to the edge. It may be hand finished...and I'd expect this to be the work of their best people who would care about how it looked.
While it is cosmetic and easily remedied when next sharpened I'd not be happy at the level of workmanship...I'd expect better.

Thanks for that tip, nosaj750. I'll def mention that in the email.

I agree with you all the way. If this knife wasn't so hard to get, I would def pass on this one. Maybe ZT's warranty will cover it and I can send it back in for resharpening.

To me it looks like the sharpening went too deep in the center and too shallow at the choil. Could be an accidental angle change or favoring that spot too much. Not sure if these are hand sharpened or by machine. And yes it would bug me at that price. To me that blade should have xxxx on it. Could it be sharpened out? Probably, if its in the edge and not the grind itself. Should you have to? Only the buyer can say.

Thanks for adding that knife to my to-buy list. I'd be fine with the grind as it is.

The grind isnt the issue or at least we cant tell from the pics. Its the edge that is funky. Not saying you in fact wouldnt be happy. Just mentioning it if you didnt spot the issue.

Agreed. It will see plenty of pocket time for sure!

If it's gonna be a user, then why are you putting the knife under a magnifying glass specifically to find something you don't like. The edge is fine and functional, and anodized titanium looks "faded" when it has oil/fingerprints on it.

Ya know what? My 0454 came with a nice chip in the carbon fiber, right by the pocket clip. I picked at it so it wouldn't chip anymore and I lived with it. You know why? Because I was gonna use it anyways.

With premium pricing should come premium quality control, and this example is obviously lacking.

Is it a big deal for a user....nah, can it be sharpened out.....most likely. If I was buying it as a user, and the price was right it would not bother me but I re-profile most of the knives I buy. If you want it as a safe queen I wouldn't touch it. To me the bigger concern is that if people don't return knives like this, manufacturers might start thinking it's okay to let examples like this out the door on a $400 MSRP knife.

Maybe those manufacturers intend for us to actually use the knives they make. Not set them on a pedestal and treat them like fine art...

It's a ZT, not an original piece by Claude Monet.

Well i drive my car everyday but that doesnt mean i want to buy one pre-dented. For some of us when we buy a new product you expect a certain level of quality and fit and finish at a given price regardless of its destiny afterward. I wouldnt pay for the gum out of your mouth just because im going to chew it anyway. The carbon fiber on your 0454 probably had a void which for the cf they use is common. It looks like chipping but I doubt it was. That is just the by product of the stuff they use. There is better. Why they use that on the LE knives? who knows.
