Is this ZT 0801CF edge funny? Pics included

A $400 knife should not look like it was sharpened by a newbies first day on a grinder. It's my job to put the use, scratches, dents, and wear into a product, I don't need to pay the manufacturer to do it for me. I'm not going to buy a new car that comes with dents and scratches from the factory just because it will get them sooner or later. Though I guess some people do pay a lot for companies to put holes in their jeans too.

Obviously YMMV.

Like you said..."The seller has provided some high quality photos..." so you can't blame him at all. The knife is NOT perfect. The edge should have been ground closer to the grind-line. Probably oil on the scale. It's really a beautiful knife. It reminds me of a 0454...I'd never buy one because I'd mess it up the first time I used it...too pretty for me.
But it is a Very Nice Folder.

I agree. And if the knife was intentionally distressed and intended to look imperfect then that would be one thing. Sometimes i swear some zt fans would defend them with there dying breath even if it was a failed knife that was killing them. "No its my fault the blade broke and is embedded in my skull. It was obviosly designed to do that."

All true points. Cant fault the seller as it can be seen in the pics

Looks like the guy on the grinder sneezed when he was working on it.

Any pictures of the grind on the other side???

I agree with most of the others on this, with a price tag like that I expect a perfect edge. But that being said KAI has excemment customer service and if you decide to go ahead with the transaction a quick cal/email to them and I'm sure they will do their best to remedy the issue with either a replacement or reprofiling of the blade. In the end it will really come down to what you feel comfortable spending your hard earned money on. We can give you all of our opinions but in the end you have to live with the results.

Hi Guys,

Wanted to start by saying I'm new to the forums here, but I've been learning a lot from reading the posts here. So a big thanks to everyone.

So onto the topic: I have an opportunity to pick up a zt801cf. The seller has provided some high quality photos and I noticed that the grind on the edge isn't even on the side with the serial number. I've included a picture of the blade close up along with a few other pictures I was given.

This knife was advertised as new and never sharpened. Also, no big deal, but is it just me or is the finish near the pivot on the non clip side fading? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Churry

I don't see any problems. They have been careful near the pivot area when they sharpened it so as not to accidentally scratch the handle or pivot. This is not uncommon.

The grind isnt the issue or at least we cant tell from the pics. Its the edge that is funky. Not saying you in fact wouldnt be happy. Just mentioning it if you didnt spot the issue.

I see now what you're referring to. It would bug me, but I'd still be happy to purchase it. I'd just have to fix it afterward. Not a big deal, mine are all users.

Directly beneath Rexford Design the bevel angle changes causing it to "swell" a little. Still sharp as all hell I'd bet, just a minor inconsistency.

the fading near the pivet is most likley something that only showed up in the photo, it looks like oil or a finger print. i seriously doubt its visible in person

the grind is a little messed up but probably wont effect function at all. You could always send the knife to one of the forum sponsors that do sharpening/re-profiling work plus you would also be able to have the edge ground to whatever angle you want instead of just sticking with the factory 22deg (not 100% if thats the exact angle of this knife but its between 20-25deg) i think a knife with steel that good should have a less than 20deg angle IMO

so after a reprofile the edge will be exactly how you want it so i say if you like the knife buy it and im sure you will be very happy with it if you address the edge issue. plus you might be able to get the seller to knock the price down some to help cover the cost of re-profiling (i think its around $50)
the other option is to have ZT fix it
