Hey folks...quick question...my buddy and I rock out a Spyderco Tenacious and a Benchmade Griptilian...when bored at campsite, backyard, etc., we tend to pick an unlucky tree and toss our knives into it from about 10'-15' away...often times, the knives don't stick in, and of course bounce off the tree and land on the ground...I can't imagine this is good for the knife, is it? Is this something we should stop doing? We can always find other things to do, like drink more beer or set more snares...

If you have to throw knives, get a throwing knife. Knives are made for cutting, not throwing.

They are not "sharp" so much as "pointy".

BTW, I knew a guy who did that regularly. He threw his folder into trees and stuck it about 1/2 the time.

One day while out camping it bounced off the tree and stuck him in the gut. Flesh is soft it went about 3" deep. Lots of surgery, he had punctured his intestines, and he learned his lesson.

Don't throw knives.

The tips are eventually going to break, and the edge hitting the soil and rocks will ruin the edge, it's one of the dumbest things to do with a folder, before you drink the beers hide your knives.

On a scale of 1-10 of things that are bad for that kind of knife, throwing them into a tree ranks about a 9.75. 10 would be shooting them in the pivot with a rifle. You will absolutely, positively, 100% break those knives if you keep it up.

For the love of Grover! YES, please do!

How many of you/us threw knives as kids?

Stretch, mumbly peg, chicken...was de regeur.

I know I did...but then I was young and dumb...

hey maybe you guys can add this to Nos's website for HARD USE FOLDERS: Tenacious vs Grip. Then we can see which is truly the better blade. All knives should be able to be thrown. What if your starving and need to win a dart throwing contest to get ood but you forgot your darts so yo have to use your trusty folder. Without it you would die. These situations are quite common so I do think it is very important.

it's ok, mall ninjas have so many cool 5 dollar folders they can never run out. So grab that 30 dollar box of gas station counter display knives and get to town... after I buy stock in Maxam and MTech. Beware they're like the chocolate Harry Potter frogs, they only got one good throw in them anyway.

don't play mumbly peg on a pier...the knife stuck, but when i went to get it the vibrations from the planks made it come loose and down it went into the pacific; bye bye bait knife...last time i ever played (which was in high school)...
