Is Twan's folding claw a new step forward for knives?

I have been looking at a poster on this site named TWAN and his new one of a kind knife made for him by Fred Perrin, it is a fixed blade lagriffe that folds up into a handle, am I the only one who thinks this idea could be revolutionary to the industry?

If it's a fixed blade how could the blade fold up into the handle? Neat idea though...

Actually it is all over that thread, there are lots of pictures of it, the thread about the new knives by Fred Perrin, The idea seems crazy but you get a smallish lagriffe fixed blade that folds up into a handle. I really think this might be something important.

I don't get it (the purpose of the design)... possibly because I don't understand how big it is...

Why not just buy a Spyderco Karambit?

I can see some rationale for it. The strength of a small fixed blade, but technically a "folder" where fixed blade carry is not permitted. Needed only if prying is on the agenda.

Nope, a lot of companys already make a folding Karambit. Check out Spyderco, Emerson, Hinderer, Hall....

I don't care for the curved blade that much.
Besides, if you want the strength of a fixed-blade, but the carry convience of a folder, there are plenty of Bali-Songs out there.

That's actually a pretty neat idea. There's something similar out there though....there are a couple of fixed blades where the handle moves over the handle or blade of the fb...so when closed, the bare tang is showing, and you slide the handle off the blade back onto the tang to expose the blade. Not great for size considerations, but probably a good system nonetheless.

That's an interesting idea....

The only thing that would make this knife design usable is when the knife is closed, it will be a very small package due to part of the handle being the blade.

Looks like a little fixed blade with a sheath attached to it. I guess that'd be nice if you were worried about losing your sheath.

Yes.........

And people sometimes say Spyderco's are ugly. :D

No offense intended because beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I would be shocked if that design is successful. (Then again, I'm not a knife designer so what heck do I know)

No, I don't think so.
It looks like a step that was stepped on in order to bring us to the step we're stepping on now.
Step step step.

:D
Alex.

Id like to have something like it, a little bigger for an outdoors/survival bag. Something with good steel and good heat treating.

I believe the design allows the blade to be part of the handle thus preventing the knife from closing. I am guessing he had this in mind for countries that don't allow locking knives.
Never seen this sold anywhere. Where else can I check this out? Is there a web store or some place?
