Is your Wife a Horrible Driver..................Too?

nice deer

how's the car?

she's hit more than one deer within a few hundred yard of the house?

just how fast and furious is she? :D

Nice score!

Angie is an excellent driver and refuses to hit a squirrel, much less a turkey. Even more disturbing, the "deer" around here are much less numerous, and way, way smaller than in central WI where I grew up. They look like sad little grey dogs compared to what I'm used to... :(

You didn't live anywhere near Stevens Point, did you? I got my bachelor's degree from UWSP and still have quite a few connections there.

Dex, any damage to the vehicle? Nice seeing pics from all the different steps of processing. Glad to see it kept you out of trouble for the day!

And the Buzzards wasted no time picking the bones and eating the guts!

I wonder if the 2 redheaded ones are hybrids?? Usually the black-headed Mexican Vultures run the red-headed Turkey Buzzards off. The MVs are smaller but more aggressive than the TBs. TBs hunt by smell, MVs by sight and smell. The MVs will attack healthy calves, lambs, dogs, cats, etc, without waiting for them to die.

Some ranchers in Oklahoma are trying to get the MVs removed from the Migratory Bird Act to allow shooting them while in the act of attacking livestock, rather than having to go through a long, drawn-out permit process of having to show proof and persuade a F&G commission that the rancher had suffered economic loss and be granted "special permits".

edited to add back in "d"s - the "d" on my keyboard doesn't work 1/2 the time and I have to go back and spell check myself :( And I missed a few "d"s.

That was one fantastic thread, great photos and a few backstraps recipes to boot.

A friend of mine has had hit a number of deer over the years in Jackson County, MI. They are everywhere.
He has a good sense of humor; his car has several small deer stickers on the fender and he affixed a hunters orange cap to the hood ornament. Should make ace soon. :D

Dex, I want to make a hunting trip out there for some of those Axis if they're on open season.

so, i'm noticing there are EIGHT deer legs there.

that's a weird mutant deer, eh?

Nice recovery. I guess the meat was already tenderized. ;)

I never see any deer when I go hunting, but I killed a few with my truck when I lived in AL. I finally finished working on the front of my truck (replacing headlight, valence bumper, grill) and not a month later I hit another one! Only good thing about living in the city is the absence of whitetails on the road.

Those are some great pictures Dex!! Thanks for sharing and for validating my purchase of the 16.

Thanks man! I think if I could only have one knife, it would probably be the 16.

Nice score!

I just ate dinner... but you made me hungry again!

Haha. Thanks man.

I was watching virtual voice (hello knife people) on you tube field dress a deer with the 16, he thought the 16 was great for the task, even preferred it over his usual bark river. But yeah a gift from the gods mate, plenty of meat there. Any damage to the vehicle?

I used to watch his vids too, I was glad to see when he picked up the BK-16. And I prefer it over all the Barkriver's too! haha

No man, just dinted the from license plate a little.

The car is fine. Once the license plate gets straightened out, you will never be able to tell.

In her defense, these deer are really dumb around here and it is pretty hard not to hit them. haha

Thanks man. The Jeep is fine. I wish I would have had a camera man to take the pics. I could have gotten more in-depth pics, but I had to try and not get blood all over the camera to snap a shot.

Meat for 6 months. Yes please

Haha. Don't know about 6 months, but it will last a while for sure.

....Wife's a Horrible Driver nuthin',
She just had a taste for venison....:D
Cheers, B.T.B.

Funny, she wouldn't even taste the damn thing. Made her deer tacos that night and I had to eat them all myself. haha.

Interesting. I have no idea man. You know more than I do for sure. I thought they were all the same. I do know that some of these are pretty aggressive and have landed on my roof many times. Had no idea they would attack live animals. Crazy stuff man.

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it.

Hitting deer on the highway is no joke. It is a real problem in some areas.

I have hit a deer before leaving Natchez, MS from our old hunting lease, and it caused like $2500 damage to my truck. It's like hitting a tree when you are going 50 or 60 mph. That was the only time my CD player ever skipped in the 10 years I had that truck. haha.

Awesome mouth watering thread

Thanks buddy!

Dex, I want to make a hunting trip out there for some of those Axis if they're on open season.

Truth is, I believe you can actually hunt them at night with suppressors too. No lie. I think it went into effect last year I believe.

And come on man, I have a rancher friend that has a couple of places to hunt some nice Axis.

so, i'm noticing there are EIGHT deer legs there.

That's my little collection from this year. I save them thinking I will make something from them, but my dog always seems to steal them and I find them in the yard.

Cleaning the whole deer with one knife, well done.

Yep, really all you need. I did use the BK-15 to make four cuts though. Two of them were the slits in the legs to hang it.

The Heart!
This is the end all and be all of Becker pictures, cannot be beat.

I noticed you kept the hide and the head together when you removed them, particular reason? you making a deer costume? ;)

Haha. Glad someone likes the heart!

No, I was thinking of saving hide and tanning it myself but I already have one or two in the freezer and don't have time to deal with them.

I just hung it up in a tree to dry and let the horns age. I will then cut them off and make something from them.

I have really been enjoying this bad boy.

Here are a couple of pics from the first day.

And crazy thing happened last night. As I was coming home around 4:30 in the morning, a big Axis doe ran right in front of me. I wasn't going fast and did hit the breaks but still hit her.

She ran off and there was hair all over my bumper. haha. Next time I will floor it!

There were like 6 white tails in my driveway too.

Must have seen at least 75 deer on my way home last night. Don't know what the deal was.
