Is Zytel (sp?) - plastic - tough enough?

I've been around knives for a while. I'm not an expert, not even close. But, I know what I like in steels, shapes, ergos... My question: is Zytel (that plastic handle stuff) tough enough on a small folder (<2.5")? I have a Delica98 (I love that blade around the house) and Cricket (more of a coupon-clipper than a user) but my every-single-day carry is the old trusty Delica 2 with SS handle. Now, let's say a Dragonfly in Plastic -- will that keep me smilin' for everyday chores? It's got good grip, but without liners, is is tough? I'm not goind to be breaking down doors, but it would be used, and well used. I'm just curious about what the pros think.

Thanks

I've owned a Delica and Endura with Zytel handles. I'll even admit to abusing the delica by using it to pry with.

Other than perhaps a slight loosening up of the blade handle juncture, I can say that it would be unlikely to break under normal use and even slight abuse. I'm sure that with enough energy and igenuity they can be broken. I wouldn't worry.

RLR, I don't think you have to worry. A zytel knife probably won't break unless you try to break it. All of the modern materials like zytel, FRN, micarta, and G-10 are pretty with our without liners.

I've accidentally dropped Zytel-handled knives onto blacktop, and done the same before to Micarta and G-10 as well. (clumsy me)

While they all held up, I was surprised that the G-10 looked the worst, and that after a drop of only about 3 feet. The Micarta and Zytel seemed to have sustained little effect at all, and the Zytel is not as brittle as it might seem.

RLR,

I have been carrying and using a zytel Endura for years. used it in my reserve military service and gave it a rough time over all.

the only problem the old zytel handeled endura has is the clip that will brake off occasionaly - but I was able to avoid that by buying many other spydercos with steal clips.

Don't worry - the zytel is a good material that gives good performance for the money.
