Been working on my hamons a lot and testing them out on these "daos" when I'm not working on orders. This one was a full-quench with just a few ashi lines down it. It is 10 1/2 inches overall with a 5-inch cutting edge and is out of forged W-2 to aboug 3/16th thick. It has some light lines that can't be seen in the pics, but I'm working on that part.

It can come with leather of kydex -- your choice and if you get the blade and it isn't to your satisfaction you can send it back for a full refund. I also offer free "rewraps" on my corded blades if for some reason you find a way to destroy the wrap. :)

Price: $275 SOLD shipped within CONUS (international okay, but may have to pay extra for shipping.) Paypal or MO work for me -- thanks for looking.

Hi Micheal, I still like the lines of your dao blades. However, on this one I'm not sure how to read the blade.

It looks like both the edge and the spine are hardened with patches of softer metal strung along the mid-blade axis. But that wouldn't make sense to me. On a relatively short blade like this, through-hardening would be as easy and as useful because chopping or other impacts are not likely with a 5" blade.

So where is it hardened and where is it springy?

Love the hamon on that Michael. Keep up the good work. And so as to not hijack this thread I send you a PM. Look forward to hearing from you.

what a cool knife. i took a look at your site last night i i like your work. nice lines and fine execution! great stuff :)

Thanks all! :)

The hamon is definitely strange, but the whole blade maintains its "spring." The blade started off longer and a little wider. I hit the bottom of the quench barrel when quenching and gave it a little "warpage." Cold hammering would not make it true, so I basically had to skim down the thinkness to straighten it up.
