Issues with Boomer52 orders?

let me start by saying i am not starting this thread to trash the guy. I am curious if anyone has bad communication experiences with him? I got with him about some Delica scales around christmas of 2020. We went through designs and i came up with what i wanted and it was a done deal. He never took a payment of course. I reached out to him a couple times asking if there was an eta on when my scales would be started with no response. Close to a year later with no communication, infinally ask him if they are done or are going to be done and he tells me he has stopped taking orders due to machinery issues. So i asked him if mine were even going to be done since i placed the order so long ago. No response. I understand stuff happens when you do the work he does, my thing is just communicate. Inwaited all that time thinking i had some sweet customs coming in and they were apparently never started. Idk if he even ever wrote my order down or whatever. Very disappointing. Anyone have any similar issues?

Communications are a two way proposition requiring participation on each side.

My experiences with Steve have been nothing but stellar, but it has been a while.

My comment interest is in a follow, as soon will be after some more scales myself ;-)

I’ve always had excellent transactions with Steve. I’ve ordered at least 10 different sets of scales from him for various knives. Excellent work and excellent communications. Maybe he’s tied up with something. Life is crazy for a lot of folks at the moment.

OP stated, "he tells me he has stopped taking orders due to machinery issues" that reply would have been around Dec 2021 (according to OP references). "Machinery" could be related to a number of things.

I expect at some point there will be a status update from Steve.
"Unable to receive or send DM's..." currently listed on his IG Account.

Well, it appears that you’re gonna have to wait now. At least you’re not out any money. His scales are worth waiting for IMO.
 
I had a conversation about buying some more Delica GrindMod sets from him a while back... The gist of it was "I'm not terribly picky, and I want to make it easy, so tell me what you've got on hand for materials, and I'll pick from that...". Never heard back. He was always quite responsive, so after a few days had passed, I felt like I was pestering him somehow, so I just let it go. Meanwhile, I have a stack of different steel Delicas, bought with the intention of gearing up with his stuff. I've been kinda waiting for him to resurface, before resuming the convo...

Hope he's doing well.

I had pretty much the same conversation with him a couple years ago - “I’m not picky, just whatever you’ve got that will fit the knife”. He seemed somehow offended by me not wanting something extravagantly customized, and immediately told me his books were closed. 🤷‍♂️

I continued to see a steady stream of people getting scales from him before and long after he told me that. Chapped my ass at first, but D’oh well. Plenty of other aftermarket scales out there.
 
Steve has been posting a few knife pics on IG as of last month. Whether it is new work or old pics I have no idea.
 
Maybe me checking on progress annoyed him and he didnt do them. Idk. His choice if he wanted to make them. I have a new delica now and went and got flytaniums. The ones i wanted still make me drool though
 
I've never had an issue with Steve. He uses a lot of sophisticated computer-controlled milling machines. If he is having issues with the machinery or software, it could take a while to resolve,
 
Hope Steve is doing okay, I’ve had great experiences and service from him also. Hopefully nothing serious has happened,
 
I've been on the, whiteboard, with Steve for some time.
I was 7 or 8th in line. I think that was February of 2021...

Last I had talked to Steve, his CNC needed a full rebuild and wasn't able to get parts.

I haven't contacted him for an update.

Steve is always very pleasant to deal with!
Retired man and makes scales as a hobby.
He likes pushing himself to learn knew things, so he does like requests.

I've dealt with Steve over the last 6yrs or so. Sent him models he didn't have, so he could input them into CAD and have files and a handful of so of different sets of scales.

i know im ready for the set i want and a few more.
Patience, in shitty times, is key.

None of this may help or maybe it will.

I think you're the first person to complain about Steve.

His customer service has always been stellar.
Just like his scales.

Yes he does have a small window for when his books are open.
And when they are... Slots are filled quickly.
