Issues with Leatherman skeletool cx

I just received it last week and I’m curious are they all this way? Very stiff and not smooth to open and close? Plier jaws also flex when cutting something with the wire pliers bad enough that it gets stuck and I have use something to pry the jaws open. I understand it’s a light duty tool but it feels rather poor. Is this a mine issue or is it just nature of the beast? My wave is buttery smooth by comparison!

New or second hand?
Most Leatherman are a little bit stiffer when new the exception is the free series. I have had a cx for many years it’s smooth it is not as easy to open compared to a wave as there is essentially no weight at the end of the handles except the screw bit, so it’s firmer to open as there is no mass to push or flick like a wave arm.
I’ve had no issues with pliers. I don’t know what gauge you are cutting. I cut coated wire, bonsai wire and zip ties regularly. I have found I like the Phillips head in the arm as flat bit can be sharp.
If you are not happy contact the dealer or leatherman for replacement or refund.
Good luck.

The handles are stiff but are also gritty feeling when opening/closing. Just wasn’t sure if it was a feature of the model or an actual quality control issue.

Gritty is how all of mine have been. (Purchased many years ago of that matters)

I used to think they might be a good edc tool but The ones I have checked out seemed to be kinda light duty almost flimsy. I want a good sturdy tool that won’t give out when you really need it.

I’m sure yours will get more limber with some use but you will probably have to be careful how much force you use. I’ve seen some that the pliers jaws sprung or broke off.

The pliers flex on every one that I have had. It is actually a pretty hardy tool for what it is. They have surprised me in what they will do. But, it isn’t a Surge or Supertool!!

Mine have been gritty for a while. I think that it is the nature of the beast-

Let it break in, then apply oil of your choice. Or return for a replacement. I bought 4 of them once I believe 1 or 2 showed up gritty. I wouldn't worry about it, its not like it's cat litter or anything, itll smooth out with use
