It’s a sad day

I have lost my Benchmade 940-1. I know exactly where I lost it. I’ve searched every day this week. I even took a metal detector out there to help locate it, but no luck. I have carried this knife every day for 2 years. I have come to the conclusion that my jeans pocket ate my knife.

I just stopped by the knife store and replaced it with a 940-2, only because they didn’t have the -1. I know it’s a great knife, but I’m just not happy with it. I kind of look at it like the bastard step child. Oh well, they say time heals all wounds...

Sorry for your loss.

Consider that you may have lost it somewhere other than where you thought.

If someone picked it up and didn't make an effort to get it returned to you, karma will get them. It will bite them for sure. ;-)

Nope. I know. I was feeding cattle. I cut the twine off a bale of hay. Got in the truck and drove less than 1/4 of a mile to put out another bale and it was gone. If it was stolen, the perp is of the four legged variety. I’m just bummed because that was my favorite edc knife I’ve ever had.

R.I.P. :(

But hey maybe its not dead just changed its owner ;)

Or it's in your truck, or it is between your truck and the bales.
As you probably do the same trajectory, and it's not going to run away from where it is, you may still find it back.

I'm sure you already did But incase you didn't, Did you look under and around your truck seat? My truck seat has claimed 2 knives and destroyed 1 pocket clip. I don't know what make truck you drive but if it's a Ford like me then I think they need to be notified about this issue, obviously it's a design flaw on the factory side. Anywho I'm glad you got a second knife to aid in you mourning and as they say "Time heals all wounds". If it's any consolation to you both my knifes and the pocket clip replacement only cost me $50 bucks.. Ah that last part probably didn't help at all.

It happens to all of us sooner or later. Lost a BM 585. Left it in cargo pants pocket and gave the pants to Salvation Army as the pants didn't fit all that good. Someone got a good knife and I replaced it.

Cattle are not very selective eaters . They will eat metal stuff , even pieces of barbed wire etc . Hope yours all have those magnets designed to prevent "hardware disease" . Might want to check their innards when the time comes ! ;)

Very sorry for your loss. FWIW, I know I 'lost' my Buck 112 at least half a dozen times during the last 40 years only to have it turn-up later somewhere completely unexpected. Keep trying and good luck!

I’m hoping it turns up eventually—It seems like the more I despair over the loss of a knife the likelier it happens that I find it, sometimes even a month or more later. Once I forget about it, it will turn up somewhere—usually.

You can't ever give up. I lost my SAK One Hand Trekker about two years ago. Last month, I opened the case for an old set of hair clippers, and there it was. Hopefully you'll have a similar experience with your 940.

I've had knives return after long sabbaticals. One hid in an attic for over a year. That same one spent a winter in my front yard. I lost it for good two years ago...or so I think.
