I took a knifemaking course last weekend from a friendly guy named Ed Storch. He lives about an hour away from me so it was a quick trip out there and back over the weekend. He took me through all the steps of how to build a knife from start to finish. This included on how to make a sheath for it, which I was not expecting him to do. Here's some pics.

As you can see in the last pic, my handles are not even. This will be something for me to work on in my future knives. The metal is ATS-34. The Bolsters and pins are stainless steel. And the handles are black micarta. The knife is 4 and a half inches long, just about 1 inch and half wide at the thickest part (from spine to cutting edge) and the overall length is a hair over 9 inches.

Even though the handles are not even, the knife has a very comfortable grip and I hope to enjoy it for years to come. I put my name on the non-presentation side as I plan to put my logo on the other side once I get some practice with electro-etching.

Let me know what you guys think! :D

Ed is a great guy, and good to see your first. Ed was the first guy to talk customs with me, and I respect him immensely. I've always wanted to do a damascus class with him- perhaps someday in the future.

Oh GREAT another one of those guys... :D Seems like there is always someone sayin well here is my first and yeah it sucks and all but... and its better than my LAST knife!

Congrats brother looks good, keep it up!

LMAO I am sure that's not the case! Thank you all for the kind words! :D

Congratulations. Hopefully I'll be posting a pic. of my first is the near future. I hope it comes out as good as yours. Nice job.

Welcome to knifemaking, you are off to a good start, and with Ed's help you are way in front of many of us who had to learn without the help of a pro. Great work.

Looks a darn sight better than my first one or two or five or six!!! :D
Sheath is pretty nice too!
The blade might a been a little more pointy but over all it looks fine! I especially like the way you tapered the handle slabs toward the front. That should make the knife feel good in the hand and easier to hold on to when you're using it.
Mr. Storch must be a good teacher and I bet he has given you the itch!!!! :D
I look forward to seeing pix of the knives you make in the future 82!!

Actually my father started me off in knife-making back in high-school and by using the old school method of file stock removal. I got the blade down to shape and HT'd but never finished it. I never did like projects that take forever.

Fast forward ten years. One of my party chiefs got into knife making and showed me what I could do with a 2X72 grinder. We knocked out a blank ready for HT in about 45 minutes and this really resparked my interest in the hobby.

This summer my party chief suggested I take Ed's stock removal course to get all the bits and pieces that I was missing to complete my knife. I am glad I did and hope to finally finish the knife I started way back when.

Just guessin by the name you own a 4 eyed fox? I had an 85... did all kinds of goodies to it AOD to T-5 swap blah blah blah.... but I can only have 1 hobby at a time... or is that two... `I got me an SVT Liightning now, and Ill tell ya the premium is killin me (not to mention all the mods...)

My L has been on the back burner (no pun intended) since I got into knives. Grinding out a few knives is waaaaaay cheaper than dropping a few tenths at Famosso Speedway.

I miss racing but knives are better for me personally. :)

I think thats the case anyway until I sell my white lightning then I "may" pick up a sport bike...

I need to post some pics of my first knife and then my current knives, maybe then Ill garner some respect! :D

Carry on bro Id like to see some more!

Yeah I had an 82. It was my first car. Name stuck, car has been gone for over a decade. Fond memories in that car. :D What I would love to get my hands on is a 68' Shelby 500 or a new Shelby Cobra Mustang.
