I don't often post in this forum, but I've been a regular “lurker” for over seven years. I've also interacted with many who do post here, for years as a buyer on the exchange and more recently as a seller (for the most part). I've really enjoyed this forum and all of the positive transactions I've had with those that hang out here so I thought I'd share some photos that might be awe inspiring, shocking, or a bit scary depending on your “addiction” status....
As noted in the title my interest in knives started with a legitimate need for a hunting knife. As I'm inclined to do, this lead to research. Before long I was disoriented and in the middle of an all consuming Swamp. Then the Hogs came out of the shadows, and as is said, the rest is history....
I didn't set out to be a “collector”. In fact I didn't realize I was a collector until I was well down the slippery slope.... It's often said here that without a picture it didn't happen. Well it did happen and here's what it looked like within a knife or two of the peak (photo 1 - the fixed blades, photo 2 - the folders):
I've gotten a lot of pleasure out of acquiring and owning these knives. I fondly recall the “Game Warden” era. I spent many evenings glued to my computer compulsively hitting the F5 key waiting for the latest iteration to drop, and then “competing” to grab what I could as they bounced in and out of carts, flashing their availability ever so briefly before finally being scooped up for good. Crazy to those who haven't been bitten by the bug, but intriguing to me, and the many others who were doing exactly the same thing.
The world of Busse, whether it be use, collecting, or just hanging out is interesting. As we all know the knives are great and the shop is a pleasure to deal with, but it's more then that. It's how Jerry markets his product. He's created a culture that's engaging and mutually rewarding. He's grown his business, while simultaneously facilitating a secondary market that allows his customers to buy with minimal financial risk, a true rarity. I have a lot of respect for what Jerry has, and continues to accomplish and am glad to have been a participant. I've wanted to say that for years, but I don't post often....
I realized I needed to “down size” a few years ago. It took awhile to turn my thoughts into action, but I started selling some of the knives I'd purchased early last year. Fast forward eighteen months and I still have a (very) few knives left to sell, but I'm more or less down to my core dozen.... Well two dozen actually, but who's counting! Here's what made the cut (pun intended): The first picture is of my users, or certain to be users. I imagine there will be changes over time (like the addition of a B8 when it's released in two weeks), but each of these knives has a purpose and a place. My remaining “collection” knives are in the second photograph. Each one represents something special to me. Some were very hard to come by, one is my first Busse, and a couple are one of a kind. I'm struggling with the 'why' aspect of collecting, but for now these are keepers....
To be continued.....
