Mid Aug 02. . .A knife that I purchased started showing signs of rust. I wasn’t able to “take the knife down” (pivot wouldn’t budge) to properly care for this fine knife. Looked seriously at prospects of having the blade and liners “Bodycoted” (on blade for protection. . .on liners cuz I’m thinkin’ of a “tactical” look).

26 Aug 02. . .e-mailed knifemaker. I asked, “What's it going to cost me to send you the knife, take the knife apart, have the rust removed, you send "Bodycote" the liners and blade so that they can coat them (with their diamond DLC coating), have "Bodycote" return the liners and blade back to you so that you can reassemble and resharpen the knife ? And what kind of wait ?” Was told to send it in for an eval and estimate. . .

30 Aug 02. . .shipped the knife. Send note with knife to what problem that I was having with knife and what I was looking for.

3 Sep 02. . .knife arrived at makers shop (USPS Delivery Confirmation is a grand thing :D ).

10 Sep 02. . .no word from maker on my knife. No problem. . .it’s still early. Sent e-mail asking about the knife.

20 Sep 02. . .called the makers shop. Left message and home phone #

25 Sep 02. . .called the shop again. Was told that the knife was taken apart and shipped to “Bodycote” on 24 Sep. Boy. . .wasn’t I lucky that I called today ! Didn’t have any estimates or time frames.

15 Oct 02. . .I called “the shop” and left a message to have them call me about my knife.

22 Oct 02. . .I called and left another message.

23 Oct 02. . .I called and finally got to talk to someone (had called 7 - 8 times previously that day and kept getting the answering machine). Was told that 2 knives (like mine) had just returned from “Bodycote” yesterday. Boy. . .wasn’t I lucky that I called today ! But doesn’t know if one is mine. Was told that some checking would take place and I would get a call back that evening. No calls returned.

24 Oct 02. . .called 5 - 6 times. . .kept getting their answering machine. Finally, got to talk to the person that I talked to yesterday. Still doesn't know ****. He has yet to talk to someone else about my knife (he doesn't want to put a knife together and send it to me until he knows for sure that it's mine ~ makes solid sense ~ I’m thinkin’ !). They have supposedly talked to the owner of the shop and he doesn't know what's going on with my knife. He said that he'll talk to “someone” today and should hopefully get it all straightened out today.

25 Oct 02. . . I called “the shop” again. . . Talked to someone totally different. The person that I was talking to the last several days isn't in. This person doesn't know anything about my knife. He's got my # and will have “X” call me that night or Monday.

28 Oct 02. . .no call from “the shop” (not surprising !). I called them. . .and talked to someone. He still knows nothing about my knife. Said that “X” was due back in the shop within the hour. He will ask “X” about the status of my knife and call me back. I again gave my name and phone #.

29 Oct 02. . .I received a call from “the shop.” News isn’t good ! They still don't know what the deal is with my knife. Another shop worker supposedly knows the scoop but is on vacation and due to return 30 Oct. Was asked to be patient and give them until Thursday or Friday to work the issue out. He said that I should hear from someone there on Thursday or Friday (31 Oct or 1 Nov). Keep in mind. . .I really think that the “new” guy that I’m talking too is trying to help me !

5 Nov 02. . .No word from “the shop.” So. . .I called the shop. I was told that he knew what I was calling about and that they have everything worked out with the knife. He put me on hold for 3 - 4 minutes and then came back on line. He stated that the “owner” will put the knife together later this week or first part of next week and then ship it to me via 2-day air (Fed X). So, I should have the knife NLT 15 Nov 02.

18 Nov 02. . .no knife. . .still in limbo.

I’m not too surprised !

Evening of 18 Nov 02. . .I called the shop. The person that I’m talking to tells me that he thinks that the knife left them last week. . .NLT Friday (15 Nov) and I should have it today (which is already done deal) and tomorrow (19 Nov). He said that if I don't get it by tomorrow. . .to give him a call and they'll call Fed X and get a tracking #.

ROTFLMAO ! I had to got into the bathroom and make sure that I didn’t have “STOOPID” written across my forehead !

21 Nov 02. . .no knife !

So late PM on 21 Nov. . .I craft a rather large and wordy Blade Forum PM and shoot it to the owner of “the shop”. . .basically. . .giving him some background on the knife and asking for his help. I even said please. ;)

22 Nov 02. . .I received a "BF PM" from “the shop” owner. . . “MY GOD we've run you through the damn ringer! I WILL personally find and deal with your knife TODAY. . . . . .Ill be back with you when i find your knife.

Hip – Hip – Hooray ! Faith has been somewhat restored ! In this short response from the maker. . .I’ve determined. . .Stuff’s going to get worked out and I’ll get my knife back ! :D

25 Nov 02. . .

Trying to keep this in perspective. . .

. . .sent the knife 30 Aug 02. . .today is 25 Nov 02. . . = . . . 88 days . . .to have a knife taken apart, sent to Bodycote, returned from Bodycote, reassembled, resharpened and sent to me !

Late late evening on 25 Nov. . .my daughter tells me that I had received a phone call from “the shop” stating that they have the knife but before they send it. . .I need to pay the balance of $50+.

26 Nov 02. . .Received a message on my answering machine about my knife. I called “the shop.” Pass my credit card info and reconfirmed my address. Was told, “we’ll get it out today.” Received several different stories as to what took so long to get the knife to this point.

I get the distinct feeling that when I get the knife. . .it’s gonna be a real “floater !”

Keepin' this in perspective. . .sent the knife 30 Aug 02. . .today is 30 Nov 02. . . = . . . 93 days I'm out $350 for the knife. . .and $50 for the "supposed service."

At this point. . .did I expect anything different from “the shop ?” **** NO !

5 Dec 02 is rolling out. . .and no knife !

Perspective. . .sent the knife 30 Aug 02. . .today is 5 Dec 02. . . = . . . 98 days

My original witty quip. . ."Did I expect anything different from “the shop ?” **** NO !"

It's now. . .TOLD YA THE **** SO !

I called “the shop” at 6:30 PM. . . He knows nothing about my knife ~ claiming that "X" is waving at him. He wants to call me back. I received a call back. I was surprised ! OK SHOCKED ! I’m told, “All we need is your credit card info and we’ll send the knife out. I explained that I had spoken to “X” on 22 Nov and had given him my credit card info. All he could tell me. . .”I don’t have your info.” Well. . .I fessed up my credit card info again and was told that he'll send the knife out that day (5 Dec).

I called "the shop" this evening. . . 6 Dec @ approx 1800. . . It’s like beatin’ a dead horse ! But, this time I want to know for sure that my knife was shipped ! I want a friggin’ tracking # !

The shop is answered. I asked for “X” or the other dude that have been working with me (I’m not sure if that statement is correct or not). Was told that they were out and would not return until 5 PM (their time). He took a message (supposedly). Told him that I was looking for a tracking # on my knife. Was told that he would have them call me either this evening or Monday.

At this point. . .I’ve lost hope of ever seeing “the knife.” But. . .if it does arrive. . .I still have the uneasy feeling that it will look like a ”floater !”



Couple little things. . .

1. I’m just venting !

2. Yep. . .there are 2 sides of the story.

3. I’ve really had an exceptional track record here in the number of knives that I’ve purchased, traded or sold ! This is the first time that I’ve been hosed hard (just my opinion) !

4. I need no sympathy !

Long winded. . .eh ? :D

In closure. . .

This coming week should be very interesting !

I’m not going to call “the shop” anymore. Besides, I think that I own a large portion of Alltell with the number of calls that I’ve made already !

Oh. . .I heard from “the shop” owner once and only once (22 Nov). Yeah. . .he found or got someone to find my knife. . .but what happened to the follow-up ? Call me fickle. . .I guess. . .just like it when people come true with their word. One thing he did do. . .said he’d find the damn thing. . .sure as hell didn’t assure me that I’d get my knife back ! And that’s held true from some time now !

I WANT MY KNIFE BACK !

Jeff, buddy, if you ever order a knife from me, I will make sure it is twice as painful as that so all your future knife deals after me will be gravy:)

That's what friends are for:D

Jeff;

Sure hope this works out in the end for you.

Sounds like there is too many people at this maker's place dealing with you, so one doesn't know what the other has done, ect. (The term 'cluster****' comes to mind! ) If I were the maker/dealer, I'd think that refunding you the $50 for your trouble is the least they could do.

Please keep us updated, and consider posting the name of the maker should this not work out for you.

I feel for you, Gig. If they treat their customers like this, I wonder how the heck they stay in business.

I highly agree with CODE 3, that the identity of this "shop" should be made public, if you are not satisfied in the end. Hopefully, you will receive your knife sometime soon. If not, then it would be time to do some payback (100 days and STILL no knife?!?!?). What better way to hurt this "shop" than in their pocketbook with a VERY unfavorable report on their work, or lack thereof?

Good Luck

The GBU meter is already pointing at the "y" in ugly. I know you are trying for some leverage here but please name the shop so the rest of us can avoid it. Bad things happen in life, I of all people understand. A short-term loss of focus and organization can be excused but months of broken promises and failures to communicate is simply intolerable. GigOne, you are very patient.

Thanks for posting guys.

I just had to get this off my chest ! I was so ticked off the other day (when I was told that the knife hadn't shipped and needed my credit card info again)!

At this time. . .I won't give the makers name. Simply, I'd like to get the knife back and in a reasonable condition. I figure, if it was shipped on 5 Dec. . .it should be at my abode this Tuesday. . .no later than Wednesday.

On Wednesday (PM). . .knife arrival or not. . .and I plan on posting the name.

dogman. . .what would I do. . .if not for friends like you. :D

And Ira. . .you're absolutely right ! The last 6 weeks; I've sat back (after talking to "the shop"), shook my head and said WTF !

Very frustrating !

And what a shame. . .it's such a terrific knife !

Gig,I may have missed reading something in your post as I became very dizzy with the SNAFU but......did you buy the knife new?If so or even not I can't understand if there were signs of rust they (the shop)didn't replace it out right. This is some of the poorest customer service I have ever heard of.You have showen great patience, maybe to much.;) I hope it all works out ,GOOD LUCK and keep us updated.

Jeff,

Sorry to hear about your being jerked around so badly. I'll look forward to reading your post next week identifying this "maker".

Bill

I've got many things I could say, but they're basically bad words directed at that shop, that is a crappy way to treat a customer. Anytime I have a problem with building/ repairing a knife I let the customer know whats happening, and get the knife to them in a timely manner.

On a side note, I know how it feels to be jerked around, I deal with it with suppliers quite a bit; I always wonder about it too " I want to give you money for your product/services; you want to take my money but not do your job ??? ". The worst case thus far has been with a machine shop that I was having do waterjet cutting ( titanium ), they pulled that **** on me over three months. I said screw them, and I'm back to cutting liners by hand ( well with a bandsaw anyway ).

Good luck, hope you get your knife back -- Charles

Well All I Can Say is I Would NEVER buy there Again!! as for Myself i Try 150% to make the Customer Happy even if i Loose 20 buck's in "Body Coat " or Express Shipping !! My Feeling's are that if I Get the Run Around Soo will Everyone Else !! This Can Not Happen at " My Shop" as i Alone am the Owner / Worker / Quality Control !! All Knive's Get 1 Last Check Before Being Wraped / Waxed/Sealed Shipped !! Alway's Send E Mail for Customer's Tracking Number and if Possible Call them to Make Sure they Got it !! Good Luck on this !!!

...100 days and STILL no knife??? I would be VERY !

A drive-by shooting/firebombing sort of comes to mind.:D.:D.

Note to FBI who may be monitoring this thread: JUST KIDDING about the drive-by shooting/firebombing.
Kids, please don't try this at home.:D.:D.

Again. . .thanks for the support and kind words !

Stumpy. . . Hopefully, this will help answer your questions.

I traded a NIB large Classic Sebenza for this knife.

The knife that I received was NIB (the previous owner had sent it back to "the shop" to have a rough satin finish applied to the blade). There wasn't a mark, bump, grind, nor single rust mark on the knife ~ when I received it !

Please keep in mind. . .I don't have a big problem with the rust. Rust can be removed. Besides. . .that's why I was having it "Bodycoted". . .to assist with retarding future rust issues.

I really only have 2 problems. . .with my hosing. . .

1. Lack of knife

2. Kaa-kaa type customer service

Sorry for using the word. . .kaa-kaa. . .I'm trying to keep this kaa-kaa free.

Jeff, can not wait to spend some time with you in person some day. Even though we have not met yet, I do know you well enough to realize that there may be two sides, but I have already heard the truth.

Hope it works out soon. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

It was and is us.
Sorry pal. I can't do every thing by myself and often need to hand things over to employees.

If you get your knife back and are not happy, feel free to call for a full refund.

I would like to point out that we are not in the coating business; we are in the knife making business. True, in the past we have attempted to help people out by offering them the service of sending in their gear to be coated, reassembled, and shipped back, for nothing more than the cost of the coating and shipping.

I use the word ‘past’ because, due to issues like this one, we no longer offer any coating service.

This is a great example of why we need to just stick with what we do.

Again, sorry about our ****** customer service.

Mick Strider

I get impatient if someone mails a knife via first class instead of Priority Mail, To wait 90 days is unaceptable!! :)

Sounds like this might get straightened out, certainly was eye opening for me.
