It followed me home (Part 2)

Couple came in over the weekend

I Admit. This is my first European Axe. The pitted head, worn makers stamp, and the slip fit eye drew me in.
I wonder if anyone here may recognize the stamps shape.

Happy Independence Day

That's a sweet old Mann rafter. Great score.

Hard to say who manufactured the Euro-style axe. Some people are distressing the cheap Asian import clones to make them look old.

At a junque store, the proprietor talked me into paying $10 (down from $15) for this old, rusty, mushroomed, heavily worn PLUMB single bit. I finally agreed after I determined that I had a use for the haft:

A boy's axe haft in a full size head. Straight, skinny, nearly perfect grain with no previous grinding/shaping. Notice the gaps present because the haft was way too small for the eye. I picked out much of the wedge, which was mostly a piece of 1/8th inch hard board, and easily drove the haft out of the eye. Pictured along with the worn PLUMB is what I believe to be a TT Woodslasher Boy's Axe head, complete with eye ridges, that I plan to hang with this "FREEPORT HARDWARE" haft:20230703_165802.jpg

The money grabbers are always working, something to watchout for. Luckily this is as i hoped. Older, forged, some shroom over at the pole, and a good 1½" of tempered bit left.
Love its pits. I may never learn who made it, or even narrow down some options.
Thats ok for this one. I want to clean it up, sharpen, hang and see about putting it to use for the neighbors visual enjoyment.

The Mann is a sweet 1¼lb hatchet. I love its dated!

I don't think I have ever seen that hatchet, really unusual. You think it's military?

The PLUMB came from an antique mall while the ESTWINGs all came from a pawn shop. One tomahawk, two latthammers, and a rock hammer. I had never seen a latthammer before; had to search YouTube to find out what they were and how they are used. Appropriately, I did all my shopping in Rockford, Illinois, just a few miles from the Estwing factory! Thanks for watching! T-A

The original seems fairly nice honestly, but damn that replacement handle sure is a beauty.

Thank you. The handle it comes on is rough and hastily carved tongue and shoulder, a real made it to use handle. Its smooth now to the touch from use and the patina of the wood is gorgeous.
The NOS labeled Liberty Bell handle is an octagonal and fits the hand perfectly, comfortably, an ergonomic masterpiece.

Can't wait to hang it!
Might be time to update my Supplee and Supplee-Biddle Hardware Co collection picture 🪓😎😉

Any chance of saving that handle and fitting it to a hammer or something?
it would be a shame to let a handle with that kind of patina go to waste and I'm sure you've probably got a head to use it on.

This old pritzlaff that I wish I had never modified ( made by AA&T I was told) had / has a gorgeous patina on the handle that I just love.

There's a slight green tinge to it from probably having been painted or something a long time ago.

Most definitely the handle will be used on one of many hatchet heads in need. It is a beautiful handle and will match up nicely to a few probably

Great handle for sure!
I vaguely recall this mod, maybe.
What was it prior to the mod?

I have 2 Pritzlaff.

A J.P. Everkeen 2² cruiser, probably by Kelly or affiliates of
And
A single bevel hatchet by Collins, a Legitimus

No sir,it's a pexto.Stopped at an estate sale today and I'm pretty sure the fella was a machinist, all the specialty tools were priced way to high. They had a professional sales team out there pricing stuff.Ten dollars for a shovel 30 for a no name micrometer and a buck for a set of starrett punches. Can't say no to dollar files either, gave 10 bucks for the draw knife. The needle files were bastard and 2nd cut 2 bucks apiece.
