Even though I tell all my family members not to get me a knife, one of them gets me one. I told them all, I have a very particular taste in knives. This was from a distant nephew, so he wasn't in the loop. I politely accepted it & thanked him. It's dull as a spoon & probably Paki/China pot steel. My space is limited. I don't know what to do with it. I think I'll just throw it in my closet & take it out when he comes over. I mean I hate to sound ungrateful because he went & got me this thinking it was a good thing. I could hang it on the wall but honestly, I don't want to look at this ugly thing every day.

Maybe we can turn this thread into "Crap knives non-knife people get us" 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

My uncle gave me a knife (with the best of intentions) that would otherwise not be up to snuff.

He's my favorite uncle, so I cherish it. If not as a knife, for what it symbolizes.

I try and not be ungrateful about it though, but my wife knows exactly how I feel, as she buys me SAKs and Spydercos.
MY step-son tried to give me a big bowie knife a few years back. He got it for nothing & I told him "Nah I'm good but thanks". It was a piece of crap. He understands now. My nephew Billy that got this for me, showed him it first & he thought "John is not going to like that". I was like "Why didn't you tell him that?" lol

They just don't seem to understand. It's like getting a Rolex collector a Casio, cause "I heard you liked watches".
i have a rolex, 2 pateks, an ap, a vc and lots of other high brands......and a casio. casio makes good stuff.

back on topic...I think it's nice he thought and tried to get ya a gift he thought ya'd like. as an adult....gift is less about the gift and more about the effort, care and meaning that went into it.

luckily I convinced all my family years ago that grown adults don't need to get each other presents. just the little kids get them. so no one feels the way you do op about getting something they don't want.

Rest easy friend. Nobody thinks that knife is a good idea...nobody...even not knowing what it is. Wowzers. Considerate and kind as the kid may be, his taste is little off center.
