It happens every year

I've drummed it into my friends and family.......don't buy me knives!

Every now and then someone will buy me a knife and it goes into the drawer, usually never to be seen again.

Not to sound arrogant but anything I want, which would be priced suitably for a present, I already have. Anything I want which I don't have, would be far too expensive for anyone to spend.

I know people want to buy you something that they know you are interested in, but unfortunately when you are deep into the hobby it's really only other knife nuts who would appreciate what you really want.

That said I have received some amazing presents from other knife collectors and makers. I cherish them all.

Close friends in Singapore gifted me this amazing present in 2022..........

My uncle gave me a knife (with the best of intentions) that would otherwise not be up to snuff.

He's my favorite uncle, so I cherish it. If not as a knife, for what it symbolizes.
Ditto.

I have three knives that may total $100 in retail value that I will die with, along with the two beauties I was gifted by members of this great forum. I have several expensive knives but the 5 knifes I mentioned have sentimental value which is priceless.

When I was just a pup, my aunt gave me a camp knife with a spoon and fork that folded outside the handle. It would have been very difficult to grip unless both utensils were opened. I did a poor job of faking enthusiasm, and I regret not seeming more appreciative. That was a long time ago, she's been gone for decades and now I wish I still had that knife.

I didn’t get a single present for Christmas. Does not bother me one bit. Maybe they all realize I have everything I need. 😂
That's us. My wife & I are in our 70's & if we need/want something, we just go buy it. This year we told the kids early on not get us presents, and instead to donate to their local food bank or local charity of choice. And for once, they actually listened to us. :)

I'm betting that your shop knife is better than most of what I own.

Shop Knives

Since
eveled eveled says he's good, there's no ruining the surprise....but my shop knives are kinda like the knives I make for Others.... High performing, but not so much in the looks department....Haha.
Now, these are obviously older, look worse, and have seen better days. I wasn't as good then, either..... hopefully my looks have improved.
The bottom one is ingot D2, with a high end, sought after specialty heat treatment. Not the normal.
Also with vintage g-something scales, glass fibers, itchy when making, I won't buy more. But I really like it's rich looks, and feels better than g10. It comes with my wonky handmade hardware, and all the dings, chips scratches, gouges, and residual glue is all for Show.....haha. it's a Real Worker, and my offer will still stand. :D
