It sure doesn't look like what I thought I bought.

Every once in a while a guy calls me with burl wood to sell. Most of the time it is curly maple. This time he said he had some birds eye maple, so I bought it. But when I wet it with water, it does not look like birds eye to me. Any guesses? 6.5"X9"X20"+ Thanks Jess

Looks like maple burl. Not really what we expect when someone says birdseye but still it's the eyes but much denser. Make sreal nice handles. I prefer it stabilized.

Thanks guys. I'll post more pix after I get it cut up. Jess

Fred Rowe has some kitchen knives on the forum ,with Big Leaf Maple burl .Looks very nice but Big Leaf is a soft maple and really needs to be stabilized

Thanks for the pointer to Freds knives, Mete. That is what I have for sure. I like the big leaf western red maple better than birds eye I think. I have bought curly maple from the same guy and just missed out on some spalted maple. He just sold 6 blocks about the same size. Thanks everyone for your replies. Jess
