Italian 4max

Another alternative would be an AD-10, and the Spartan in the other. ;)

That was probably me, though I wasn't the only one. The issue was the lock bar that sat slightly proud of the handle. If I remember correctly, it was only on the third run of the American version.

The first run of the US 4Max was perfect and supervised by Andrew Demko. The second release was plagued with a lock bar sitting proud of the handle. The third release, the one I have, was perfect.

The US 4 Max in 20CV is a legend and mine has a perfect fit and finish. I've used it often and it still looks new. I did buy a Scout and can report that functionally it is as good as the US model I have.

I have flipped a lot of 4 maxes. Both the Italian and American had problems. Some were good and some were bad.

Some of the issues are bowed liners, gaps between the lockbar and the liners, sunken lockbar, pivot spins and cant be adjusted, terrible edge grinds, poor machining on the G10 and really bad lock-stick. Oh, and paper thin pocket clips.

Nothing against the knife. If you get a good one, its a great knife

I guess sometimes you got to work the bugs out. I know the AM one I have is Awesome and operates slick as you know what. 😁 I've looked around and found that KC had them back in 2016 and they actually have a video, and you can see the lock bar problem pretty well there. Thanks,

I’ve got a 2nd Gen American and an Italian.....and Elite.....half dozen Scouts. Maybe I got lucky with the Italian, but it’s flawless.

Now to find a Gen 1 American and an actual Demko 4Max, then I’ll be happy.
Dang you've been busy, I do think that Italian looks great as well and wouldn't mind having a good one. I like the scales and the color too.

Absolutely!!! I needed something to keep my hunt alive for a true Demko! I decided I need at least 1 each for most of my daily wear! 2 different uniforms for work, 1 for my outer vest, 1 for my primary go bag....... and a couple extra just in case. I gave one to a buddy after I had to wrestle my scout away from him. Gravelcub is still to physically small to wield one, but he’s going to need one eventually.

The Italian, in my opinion, looks the best.

Did you get the mean Greenie from DLT, if not your also missing that one as well. I gave a Scout to my son also and he loves it and one for my son in laws birthday. They are a lot of knife for the money. If I could only find one with an Infi or 3v or Magnacut blade. I think that would be the only difference I'd want in the 4 Max, Well unless they make a 5 or 6 Max. 😁

All the Cold Steel Triad knives I own have some minor gap between the lockbar and the liners. I'm not sure if this is tolerance issue for the Triad's function or just a cost cutting decision...probably the latter. Regardless, I would rather pay the crazy deals I've been getting and have a 4 Max at about 95% of Spyderco's quality instead of paying for Spyderco "quality" and getting an overpriced knife; I've owned Spydercos with bent blades. I recently bought three 4 Max Elites for $200 brand new and they're so much more knife than a $220 Military.

The gaps are the only issue I've seen. G10 is nice. The edge on this knife was one of the best from the factory I've seen in any brand. I've seen some ugly Spyderco grinds. On one I'm carrying now, the lockbar will deploy too early if you flick it open hard, resulting in an uneven engagement, but I never flick my knives open. When you open it normally, it's flush with the liners.
