Italian balisongs and more...

Alright, I need some advice on collecting a few balisongs here. A few things I need some help with here...

1. This site I stumbled up on, http://www.skm.to/balisong.html has some decent looking knives, although I seriously doubt they are as nice as they claim they are (AISI 420 stainless blades, 58/59 HRC), I still like the looks of their knives and would like 2 or 3 for my collection. They are all about $30 each. Anybody think it's a good idea to order from a company overseas that prides themselves in being able to ship switchblades into countries where they are illegal? And can anyone see the justification in paying nearly $40 for shipping just to get your order in less than a month?

2. Anyone have any idea how to purchase authentic balisongs from the Philipines, other than through knifezilla.com which seems to be having trouble with it?

3. And have any of you seen any other "kamakazi" style balisongs for sale online, anything with a Manila style latch in a low price range, any other balisongs with wood inserts for like $30 and under?

Thanks. I know you guys are probably going to get sick of me rambling all the time. Blame it on Clay! His site got me hooked! :P

I ordered one of those Italian balisongs before. As far as appearance goes, they look pretty nice considering how cheap they are. However, they're still more expensive than Jags, and they don't perform nearly as well. They're REALLY light, but not in a good way. The handles are so flimsy that I snapped mine in two pieces while I was performing a routine tune-up on the handles. The blade is also pretty bad, and the whole knife in general is so light and flimsy that it would most likely break into pieces if you stabbed anything solid with it.
The pins did not shear, probably due to the lightness of the handles, but they did get a good bit loose after a while.

In my opinion, unless you really like Italian stuff for some reason, I'd pass on this bali. Jags are cheaper/quicker to buy(don't have to deal with the international shipping costs and time) and are much better knives in my opinion. And of course, the BM 42 ought to blow them both out of the water.

Ditto. They're nice looking, real wood inserts, etc., but the overall fit leaves a lot to be desired. I'd stick with Jags or splurge on a 42.

Though I can't comment on the balis in particular, I feel I should say something good about SKM. They got me all the stuff I ordered, from Italy to Canada, in good condition and in 3 days. Good service too. I'll throw in one of those balis with my next order, just to add to my collection (if it doesn't warrant using).

Well, I basically wanted the balisongs as something to put in a display case, not as something to carry on me and expect it to save my life or as something to practice with. And even though I am fully convinced that Benchmade's are the best balisong out there to get, at this point people are falling over each other to get the new 42s, and I'm in no position to be be shelling out hundreds for an older one. But I'm going to trust you, silver. I'm gonna order from them. Thanks for the good word on their behalf. It makes me feel alot safer. Just out of curiosity, what sort of shipping plan did you get and how long did it take them to deliver?
