Its -8 and Rick is Freezing his butt off now!

Fire + Poly Tarp = Kinda scary to me. /shrug

Great pics. I hope all goes well and look forward to hearing about the night

Looks like a blast. It looks like only room for two in side - where did you sleep ?

Looks like a blast. Same kind of shelter I lived in for two years. With the fire inside they are warmer than ya think.

I dont know if its my computer or what but a bunch of the pics just show up as red x's.

Sweet pics of what looks like a great time. I got the chills just lookin' at the photos.

-8 was barely out of shorts weather for me! I'm sure they were fine. To me the tarp would be less of an issue with a long fire as it does not need to be very big as the entire length is slowly warming the enclosure, thus no big sparks to worry about- but I'm sure Rick will comment better when he gets back. I'd love to do the same but I think my wife thinks our 6 month old is too young for winter camping- I can't wait till spring.

Great pics! I'm so envious! Looks like a hell of a good time with some good company. That Bushido is quite the animal.

I suspect that fire wont do any damage. They built it right with a nice vent up top.
Looking forward to hearing how the cattail beds did and how the fire was.

I've never seen poly-tipi with a fire inside. It'll be interesting to hear how much heat it retained.

An interesting question. Of all the heat loss mechanisms, would the material of the tent cause any significant difference?

It is scary... I slept two nights in oldpinecrickers Kifaru tipi, and we had a grass fire....

The stove in it, working properly, produced heat, which had the general effect, as it should, of heating the interior. But, said heat, also dried the grass over which the stove was standing. Then, after some time, while stoking the stove, a stick that was burning, was introduced, accidentally, to the now dry grass under the stove. This had the effect of lighting the grass on fire.

You can imagine that this created an experience that was exciting, stimulating, and educational.

This whole time, I'm thinking how handy it would have been for them to have a honda portable generator, 3 gallons of gas, and a space heater. But I guess that misses the point.

We are alive and well...... A bit smoked out at times... but we managed. Got home around 6am. Weather netwowk says it dropped to -13C last night (-19 w/windchill)

Spam, spam, spam, spam.........

Busy day today..... I will give a complete run down tonight.

Ken.... I have your glasses... found em in the snow shortly after you left. They are still in one piece.

Rick
