It's a Burl - A photo tour of where I work

very fun Mark. Thanks for the pleasurable photo tour. Thanks for the good business as well. You are great to buy from.

Another forum member asked if I had some photos of our place.

This is what it looks like in the summer.
I am having a hard time remembering what that is like.

I remember this thread when it first came up. Amazing place and amazing stuff! What a lucky guy to get a job like that....

I missed it till now?:eek:

Mark you should bump it up every so often? Give new guys and Some old guys a look at it.....:D

Very cool photos - and place - Thanks for showing . -

I bet everyday at work is an adventure. I can't imagine what the policy for fire insurance costs.:D

lucky bugger! i work 5000 kilometers from home, (get back for a week 8 times a year) and if the world needed an enema Karratha would be where they put the hose.:barf:

Now Mark I did not see any pictures of your messy work area I mean clean work area :p.

Mike says this because last time he came by he had to climb through a 3 foot deep pile of cutoffs to get to what I wanted to show him.

You would be proud of me now Mike. My cutting and sanding areas are clean and organized. Everything else is hidden under tarps or behind closed doors.

As BustaCrook said about fire insurance, kind of spendy.
The place has burned down a couple times through the years.

Bigal2me, I think I should post a few new photos now and then. There are some talented people making furniture and such here. One of the women who works here recently finished a walnut and olive burl bench that looked really cool.

HAHAHA Mark I loved the piles as I found some goodies you misplaced in them :D, dang behind doors now guess I will have to get Harvey to open them for me :p.

If you guys are near by it is worth the trip over to see Mark and take lots of money :D.

Great Place. I have been by there probably 100 times and never stopped. I have been to a couple other hole in the wall type shops and was not impressed. I am sorry I never stopped by now.. Your place is much larger than what I see from the road. Next time through I will definitely stop by and see whats up.

Hey Chuck when ever you get around to coming down here for a visit I will take you over and show you where Mark hides all the good stuff ;).

Usually I watch what comes in and if it is wood that would be real good for knife handle material or for the guitar builders I will pull it aside. One of the times when Mike stopped by he had run around the place with Harvey (my boss) and bought some slabs of wood.

When he made it over to my work area he asked "Do you have any pieces like this" and showed me a figured slab with a gazillion black lines from spalting. I replied "I wish, where did you get that?". He answered, "Harvey just sold it to me".

That sneaky bugger. Mike found some of the best stuff before me. But then he has been coming here for years so he knows where to look.

Mike has a way of finding the good stuff. Some people are like that. Just like his wrought anchor chain. I hope to talk Kim into coming down soon after the show. We have to go back to CA first of May. Have to look at her schedule to see when she works. I will probably stop by the burl shop anyway just to see what's up.

Mark, Where in southwestern Oregon are you located. Are you in the sticks near Mike in Williams?

Sorry so slow to reply. I just now noticed your question. Sorry.
I think we are about 15 or 20 miles apart.
But Mike lives in a big town. I think they have their own grocery store there and everything. Maybe even a gas station.
We are in Kerby, home to dozens. At least a few.
We have a convenience store, a tavern and two stop signs.
We are on highway 199 where the speed limit drops to 40mph for a couple hundred yards.
You probably wouldn't call us the sticks though.
We have electricity, telephones and last year we got water.
Most of the people around here even have indoor toilets.....and some of the roads are paved.
