And we have a winner! SharpBits SharpBits was chosen by the Wheel of Names as the grand prize winner of this giveaway!

I have two runner-up winners who will be receiving an extension (they are both already Gold Members) to their Gold Membership... Just as soon as I talk to a mod to figure out how to do that now. The gift option seems to be missing with the site migration. If that doesn’t work out, I have a couple alternative prizes. :)

Thanks all who entered and told, and showed us their favorite cover materials!

Giveaway open to all PAYING members of the forum, or ANY member with at least 250 posts on BladeForums.

Has it really already been over a year since I hosted a giveaway!? Shame on me!

Since many were not able to get in on a City Stock, and some others were a little turned off by the rather high price on the Boss Bull Keeper... I thought a brand new, Great Eastern Cutlery #81 Boss Bull Keeper in desert ironwood would be perfect for a giveaway!

As a little bonus, two extra names will be drawn and those members will receive a free Gold Membership (or extension). :)

But I'm not giving this away for free. I'm businessman now. I want something out of the deal. 😂🤣

Being a handle material provider, I would like to hear YOUR all-time favorite cover material! Be specific. If it's wood, what species? Burl? Curly? Spalted? If it's horn, what kind? What color? etc? If you have a picture of an example, even better!

To enter, just let make a comment on the post with your favorite cover material! I will leave this open until Saturday night, and choose a winner (via random selection) on Sunday (which will be announced on Monday).

Great Give-Away. Not an entry, but some Australian Red Gum Burl ticks all the boxes for me. Good luck to all that enter. 🤞🤞🤞.

Im in, thanks for the generous GAW. :) My favorite handle material is bone. No, wait, its wood. No, micarta, I mean stag... No....
Ugh... I guess if I have to narrow it down to 1 choice Id pick bone. I really like Cases amber bone (shocking coming from "CVamberbonehead" I know) lol. But just jigged bone in general, since it is pretty tough, feels nice, ages well, and looks good.

Im in for a very generous GAW.

I have always liked wood best mostly gabon ebony, that was until I got my first and only Viper which was desert ironwood.

So those 2 are my favourites nowadays, I think it depends on the knife which would would work best.

Desert Ironwood looks great on this knife. 😁

Out of interest which desert does the ironwood come from?

Love these to two knives my first HJ and my first Viper.

Wow, what a giveaway!

I'd say my favorite material is elk antler, although I'm also a sucker for jigged bone. I'm a special sucker for this jigging pattern which I think GEC labeled as "Horsecut".

I think hemlock green bone with that jigging would be completely bonkers, therefore irresistible.

Honorable mention:

I love the look of properly aged antler:

Thanks for the opportunity at such a generous giveaway. Please count me in. My favorite scale material would be deep, dark, jigged bone. It would be closely followed by a rich, dark wood. Stag would round out my top three.

Interesting, was it traditionally used for anything in the old days?

So much!

The seeds are edible after roasting. The leaves and bark were used to make medicines. Ironwood was often used as the main supporting beam for wigwams.

Desert ironwood is one of the hardest, heaviest, and toughest woods that is found in North America, so while large scale production using it has been rare…. It’s been used for numerous things over the years because of its properties.

Please count me in for this GAW and thank you Brian ... it's very generous.

It's truly tough to pick just one handle material. My preference on most knives is greatly based on my uses of the knife, but if I'm pressed to try to choose one ... I'd lean towards natural materials such as wood, stag, or bone. And for visual aesthetics I would have to say Koa wood.

the top knife in the picture is a knife I got from Carl Colson in Koa ...
