What a generous giveaway! There are so many great material handles to chose from... Mammoth bark is always mesmerizing and stunning. Some gnarly stag is hard to beat. Ebony is one of the classiest woods, in my opinion. But, any wood with nice grain is also hard to turn down.

All in all though, I guess I'm a simple man. There is nothing more traditional than jigged bovine bone. And, being a bit of a Case enthusiast, I think I'd be hard pressed to say that some jigged green bone from the tested era / early XX era is not my favorite. So, my vote will have to go there!! My understanding is that they used potassium permanganate to achieve this.

I don't own any tested era case knives... yet! So, this early XX era picture will have to do!

Exceedingly generous giveaway! Thank you for the opportunity.

This answer is liable to change at any moment, but some jigged bone examples are just right (see: Diamond Jack, City Stock.)

Thanks for the chance Brian, I’m in! I love micarta, and ironwood or cocobolo. Also a nice red sawcut bone is the bees knees. 👍🏻

I’m in thanks mate,

I’m an ebony tragic, by the time I’m an old man I envision my knife room to be as dark as a black hole!

Some close runners up:

Ironwood: striking, dense and weighty.
Boxwood: oxidises to a beautiful honey
Natural bone: stain and verdigris character

Notable mentions:
Osage: only have one but love the oxidised deep orange. I will get another when the opportunity arises.
Siamese rosewood: don’t have a knife in it but I have a piece for me to use one day.
Dark horn: from any animal, with a polish it is sublime!

The eh:
Any synthetic materials.

I'm in - thanks for the chance!

I think my favorite handle material would be this Raffir Corn Husk stuff because it looks like it's folding time. 🤯

Not my pic, not my knife - so sue me. If I did have one, I guarantee you'd be sick of seeing it by now! 😂

I think the BF Buck run in that extra special elk will be an all time favorite of mine! Don’t own one but just love it.

Recently I’ve been curious about American holly. Seems to be used as an ivory alternative in other circumstances but never seen it on a knife.

Great giveaway, thanks for the opportunity

Very generous giveaway, Brian. Not an entry though, I have already been the recipient of your generosity. Hands down my favorite handle material is jigged bone. Especially on older knives, not so much on new production knives. However, I think GEC did a fine job on the jigging on the two Waynorth SFOs. Ebony would be my second choice.

Fantastic GAW Brian! Not an entry since I had some good luck with the 81s. Handle material, I like them all, even the acrylics. But my favorite on a traditional knife is ebony or African Blackwood, tough and functional while always looking classy.

So much!

The seeds are edible after roasting. The leaves and bark were used to make medicines. Ironwood was often used as the main supporting beam for wigwams.

Desert ironwood is one of the hardest, heaviest, and toughest woods that is found in North America, so while large scale production using it has been rare…. It’s been used for numerous things over the years because of its properties.
You know after telling me that I like it even more. 😍

What does the actual tree itself look like?

Such generosity is impossible to ignore :) I'm in thank you.

If I win I'll help out with the foreign postage.

Actually, there are only 2 scales I don't like. MOP/MOT and that Abalone

So there rest are all on point but a lot depends on weekly mood. I like synthetics such as tough Micarta, Delrin and Acrylics. Random Jigged Bone- such as CASE XX Redbone but also like Smooth Bone in Ivory. Stag is diverse but when good is extraordinary- see others' examples  Wood offers a lot but I like JUNIPER the most due to fragrance and durability. But my current choice for this GAW is for RAM'S HORN. durable, grippy and aesthetic, here on a 15 recovered.

Very generous GAW. Thank you.

Having failed at getting one i can't resist to be in but living in France, if by luck i win, i would like to pay the shipment fees.

I like wood and every thing related to wood. Trees, forest, hand tools to work the wood. You get the idea.

The wood which appeals me the most for knives covers is Osage Orange. The color, the grain... DSC_0070.JPG

Dan.

Burlap micarta is my favorite, blue or burgandy.

Dark woods take a close 2nd: cocobolo or bloodwood being tops, or a brown-streaked ebony if handpicked.

Padauk, osage, and olivewood are easily in the too 10 consistantly as well.
