Yep, its Bearthedog and Picts fault, they've been posting all those machetes lately and my Tram started feeling lonely... I don't know how it happened but a few minutes ago a box showed up from SMKW with a 12" and an 18" Tram.. I think the least Pict could do is help me figure out how to get one of those fancy leather sheaths.....

I have the top and bottom ones, I find the small one seems like a big knife, not quite big enough for a machete but still a good camp blade. The bolo is a machine on everything.
Tramontinas are the moras of the machete world, you can do pretty much anything with a mora and a tramontina.

I've got a few too bro. Fun projects in the making. Get some mikarta and rehandle those bad boys.

Liam,

Yeah, those bolos are great. Mine gets a lot of action in the summer, clearing trails and battling with wild rose bushes (I think I'm losing..). Can't wait to see how these 2 new ones perform.

Andy,

Hmmmm. Micarta... Got any pics?

And I won't even apologize...

I'm working on the sheath thing. That 18 is a hard one to find sheaths for in my area. The machetes sold most often here are like the 12 you bought just in 10 - 18 inch. The sheaths I find most often are made for them.

Those blades won't let you down. Mac

Believe it or not I actually had dream about Tramontina machetes last night. In my dream I was looking through an Army Surplus store and came across a whole bunch of Trams (the small ones, the 14" bolo and the bigger ones, as well as few Okapi machetes) except that none of them had handles on them. Not sure what a psychologist would make of that except that I've spent too much time on bladeforums.com.

Pict,

If you ever a need a marketing partner up here, give me a shout!

Jh205,

Well you know what Freud would have said.... But you sound pretty normal to me:D.

I hear you about want to about a tram after all this talk about machetes. I ended up going with a 12" and I'm still thinking about going for a 14". That would be great to get one of those leather sheaths for my 12".

I like them,I know you can get the tram from smkw but I have a buddy in Brazil ( he says Brasil) and all ways mails me gifts...and I talked to him today making deals on aircraft parts and asked me if I needed anything I said sure..send me tram...so we shall see how long that takes from Brazil to me in Tx. Dang people down there are so nice & friendly as well always wanting to mail gifts & when he comes to Tx to buy,he treats me like a brother...

Bear,

Those are really cool. Thanks for the link to Leatherface, the quickdraws look interesting. I would like to get a traditional South American leather one at some point. My family has cabins on a lake up in Ontario and there has always been a machete hanging on the wall, complete with a thick, decorative leather sheath that always makes me think of my Grandpa. My grandfather was an interesting man, he went to Yale forestry school and than worked for a lumber company exploring the tributaries of the amazon (talk about some amazing pics, gotta get them from my aunt!). In any case, I don't believe the machete had anything to do with my Grandfather (he died long before I was born of a mosquito-borne illness he picked in the jungle), but I used to look at that machete and imagine my Grandfather's adventures when I was little, so there is some nostalgia there.... If Pict can't hook us up, I'll have to talk to L-face or Ilbruche!

Great little story. You got to respect those grandfathers, they have seen some crazy stuff.
You want leather go to Leatherface. They don't call him that becouse his face is leather. Check out his leather he does kydex on the side but is a master at leather. Check out his site, wow!

My 18" in action (I like the sound of that!). My son likes it. It whizzes through these wild roses:thumbup::thumbup:.

Mneedham,

I'm working on it but I won't be in the US until August. I'll offer what I have here before I hit e-bay. I just spent some time cleaning up my sheaths from the last few trips I took out with them. Methinks there'll be a group photo sometime soon... Mac

TTD,

I missed your post somehow, but ask your pal if he will send you a sheath, it seems like they are hard to come by up here!

Bear,

Will do.

Pict,

If you are taking any advance orders, put me on the list. Can't wait to see the group shot...
