Great collection!!!
Those nekkid ones make me want to strip and beadblast mine.
Which one of those SHBM's are you currently chopping firewood with?
I used the satin one second up: my 1/300 user. It worked like a charm. I split for a long time and it's still shaving sharp (I gave it a good edge job and cleaned it up just a little to kinda mark my territory

). I'll just alternate between it and my CG on the bottom.
I'd suggest stripping and then hand finishing followed by a good buffing with some polishing compound. Then any time you want to clean it up, just use some more polishing compound and you're good to go. It's really easy/low maintenence once applied.
I think the AK would make a better back shaving implement. Much longer, easier to reach the middle........right. Also, how do the new BM's compare to the old straight handled ones for chopping? I have heard that the ergo handle puts less strain on the wrist/hand for longer chopping???
and, nice set there too!
The AK is a little long/unwieldy for good back shearing...the SHBM has more control

.
The handles are pretty much a preference thing in my opinion. I've used them all by now and found myself asking that very same question last year I believe.
I personally think the most powerful chopper with the best performing handles is the FBM (get it while it's cheap). I think it's a bit too heavy to carry around for hikes and such, but it's great for a campsite, around the yard, or short outings. It'll fatigue you a little bit more than the other two as well. I wouldn't use if for brush clearing as it's a bit too much to swing around like that but it's very strong for chopping, and splitting. It's decent at limbing though I like limbing with my SHBM more as it's a quicker knife. It really doesn't do it for me in terms of looks and I'm not a heavy enough user to go for it because of the difference in performance. I'll probably end up with another one though. It's a great user. ALSO: for splitting, I think the FFBM would be the king, but it's a bear and also doesn't have as good penetration for chopping. I haven't used the FBMLE it's probably a beast though!
As to the BM-e, it's got less forward weight than the other two and because of this isn't as powerful a chopper. It feels very solid and the handles are very comfortable to me at least. It's a respectable chopper, but of the three I think it's the lowest performing in outright chopping. It IS a little better than the other two when it comes to brush clearing and fatigue as it's easier to swing and the handle is very secure. It's a little more packable than the FBM for most people...I wouldn't have problem with having it on my belt for outings. It's my least favorite for some reason....it really never struck me. For splitting it's good, but I don't think it's as good as the FBM still, I don't think you'd have any complaints. I like splitting with this a little more than the SHBM but not as well as the FBM. It's got a great secure grip for limbing, but for me it isn't as fast of powerful as the SHBM.
The SHBM is the second most powerful of the three in outright chopping and can comfortably clear brush (not as comfortably as the BM-e, but much more than the FBM) it's great for limbing (I like it more than the FBM and MUCH more than the BM-e for this) and is close enough in raw power to the FBM that I never really think about wanting more. It's got good penetration and to me it looks the best. I like the handles the most, and I don't have any problems with packing it around for any distance that I would cover.
I think the 3 knives are kind of at different points on the spectrum, the FBM being more at the brute end with said traits, the SHBM being in the middle with some good brute qualities and shares some of the finer points with the BM-e while the BM-e has it's own end of the chopper spectrum with said performance points. They're all great and you'd be happy with just one user of any of the three. It really comes down to personal preference and what also looks good to you.
