Its been awhile - my biggest Bowie.

I think you need to add another inch or two to the overall length.
:p NOT! I really, REALLY, like it though. The handle and guard look fantastic.

Most impressive - and not just in size. Talk about a no-excuses bowie! The sheath is fantastic as well.

My thumbs cramp up just thinking of all that hand-rubbing. :)

Now I understand why so many knifemakers wear thick glasses and test-shave their knives on palm-hair...:D

Yeeeeehaw!
At over 14", you're starting to get into the size range where I pay attention.

I like it. May make a few changes if I was gonna personally carry it, but of course ya gotta please the customer. So what's the dynamic balance like? Where's the optimal striking point?

Possum, assembled, the balance point is about 1-1/2 to 2inches in front of the guard. It it were "my own" bowie, I'd distal taper more so that balance is about 1/2inch to 1inch in front of the guard, max. I like a lighter blade, personally.

I haven't whacked anything since the handle was attached, but in pre-finishing testing, it felt like the sweet spot is a 6-7inch section from 6inches forward of the guard to about 2 inches short of the tip. Maybe thats just the way I swing... No pun intended. ;) Jason.

Pretty Sweet Jason,That's one Big Mother.I especially like the guard and handle configuration:cool:

Jason-
From your description of the striking point, it sounds pretty good. Though I'd believe now that the handle is attached, the "sweet spot" will not be quite as generous. If you did change something to make the balance point that close to the guard, I'd be afraid you'd negatively affect it's handling characteristics and it's powerful striking area. This is why I specifically avoided asking for the balance point. That one attribute does not tell us whether it's properly balanced (for your intended use) or not.

Just for reference, my 18" bladed bowie balances almost 3" ahead of the guard, and in actual cutting it has more chopping power than my 21" 32oz HI Kukri. Yet at the same time, during fast manuevers, it handles much faster than a machete. Interesting paradox, no? :)
