Very nice! I didn't realize that the Moki on the bottom looked so good!

Welcome back, Ryan! :thumbsup::)
There used to be a guy here who'd recommend the Texas Jack! ;):D

I like to show this photo whenever I post other photos of this knife because it's a testament to the exceptional build quality of the Moki brand.

If Moki's (and related brands) have a fault, it's that they're built too well, and the slightest bit of pocket fluff or dirt can clog them. Specifically where the lock engages a blade. Spyderco (and presumably some other brands) have a "well" underneath the lock face for stuff to collect so the lock will still engage if it's a bit dirty. My Moki's, AG Russells, and G.Sakai (all made by the latter) need to be cleaned out frequently.

No kidding. Add another to the list, I guess...

Looks good to me. I'd dig a micarta or wood one myself.

Hi Ryan,
It has been a while. Hope all is well with you and yours.

I know you like carbon steel. Got two brands to suggest,
♦ Bear and son
♦ Utica

Both of them make knives in 1095 carbon steel, including lockbacks.
Both are US made and both brands are reasonable in price.
Knifecenter is a BF dealer member which carries both brands.

I have knives from both companies: a Lockback made by Bear and a stockman made by Utica. Neither is real fancy, but both are solid knives with very decent fit and finish.

Edited to add:
Bother! I just checked and am now not sure that Utica makes a carbon steel lockback.

A good low profile knife that fits the overall type is, the little Boker lock blade that comes with nice rosewood or stag scales. Very nice trim little pocket knife. Also the smaller Al Mar's are very nice in the pocket.

Did you decide on anything Ryan? Rsmith_77 Rsmith_77

I have a few really good (I think) suggestions, but either don't quite fit into the "traditional" realm, or definitely don't fit. However, they'd all make good replacements for the Blackhorn.

Looking at pictures of the Blackhorn, it seems to have a rather poor blade to handle ratio. That means you can go down in size with the same blade length or keep the size and have more edge. But again, some suggestions I have for you aren't "traditional". If you're interested, email me at planterz(at)gmail(dot)com.

I know!! I am alive
i work at an ace hardware, my store sells almost entirely case and benchmade
but we just opened a new store and i think they got bear and sons
i'll check them out!

and i havent really decided on anything. i struggled mightily on sharpening my stainless steel case knives and some of my buck stainless knives when it suddenly registered i wasnt sharpening at nearly an acute enough angle (they sharpen different than victorinox for some reason). so i was wearing down the blade shoulder but not actually sharpening the blade
i havent been having as much trouble since that Ah HA! moment :p

If you like exotic knives, try a Bastide Lozere , locking, even lighter than a Moki, about same price, simple 12C27 made very sharp.
