It's been brutal

You stinkers with the cool wet summer are making me jealous. Oh well, it'll change, it always does.

There is a silver lining to everything. I've spent the last couple of weeks, an hour or two at a time, moving dirt with my tractor. I've got two tanks (ponds for the northerners) connected with a narrow channel. One side has dried up completely, so I'm cleaning out and making the tank larger and deeper. I've also deepened the connecting channel by a couple of feet. I've moved over 200 yards of dirt out of it so far, so it's a substantial increase in size. The larger tank still has 6 feet of water in it - about 7 feet lower than normal. My fish are getting a little crowded, but I think they'll make it. Eventually we'll get enough rain to fill everything up. It'd better, that's my supplementary survival food stock!

LMAO I needed that :D I'm stuck here at work and thinking that a tropical depression would be nice for a little rain in the area :p

Good News!! I hear talk that good ol' El Nino will be visiting us again later this year. Then we Texans will be bitching about the damned rain...

108 degrees last Saturday, 107 on Sunday, only got up to 100 today. Unfortunately, while I spent most of the weekend with my family hanging out in the river, I spent 5 hours today in the sun in full leathers doing overhead welding. I dranks lots and lots of water.

You need rain?

Naked girls plough fields in India for rain

PATNA, India (Reuters) – Farmers in an eastern Indian state have asked their unmarried daughters to plough parched fields naked in a bid to embarrass the weather gods to bring some badly needed monsoon rain, officials said on Thursday.

Witnesses said the naked girls in Bihar state ploughed the fields and chanted ancient hymns after sunset to invoke the gods. They said elderly village women helped the girls drag the ploughs.

It seems to be working!
You could try it in Texas!

India’s Rain Deficit Narrows as Monsoon Strengthens

its been over 110 here, but is averaging 106 and the monsoons are adding to the humidity at a fast rate. ill take 110 with a breeze, but it has to be 125 in the shop maybe higher when i crank up the forge.

Late in life I finally found out how to beat the heat. I was told once to keep a wet handkerchief tied around my neck in the heat. Sounds too simple, but by golly, it works. It's like having your own personal air conditioner. But you have to keep wetting it often so it doesn't dry out.

There are neckerchiefs with crystals sewn in them that absorb water and hold it and let it out slowly to cool you over a longer period of time. They are inexpensive.

I just saw those for the first time last week. They were in the Tennis/Racquetball section of the local Dick's Sporting Goods (not sure if they are nationwide). They seemed cool, but the heat isn't that much of a threat in Pittsburgh.
