I have been bitten by the Deer hunting bug I believe. Going to pick up a climber stand this week used. Traded for 1 bow yesterday and going to trade a knife customer of mine for another one Sat.

Here is what I picked up yesterday in a trade. A PSE Firestorm Lite.

Not too bad as I basically have all I'll need to get the job done if a deer walk within range. This bow is basically brand new. Its not a super new one but by far the nicest Bow I have shot. Has 3 pins and the top green one is set to 20 yards.

Got her fitted to my short 27" draw and was doing this each set of 4 I was sending down range. These are 2 groups at 20 yards.

Looking forward to the Diamond Rock bow my knife customer is bringing this weekend. From what I can find out it is a better bow than the PSE because the Cams are newer and may be a little faster.

Both of the bows are super woods size and I can not wait to get them out in the woods!!!

Good luck - I hope you fill every tag you buy. My son and I know our hunting areas pretty well, but we've done a fair bit of scouting already. Obviously the patterns will change between now and autumn but it's good to be out in the field.

Any day in the field is a good one - heh. Here's a pic from a rabbit season or two ago...

Nice picture :) !!!'

I have been scouting the 15 acre area since last December. Hoping I see something in a few months.

oh very nice.

those PSE bows have a great reputation.

whats the draw weight?

i use a 70lb Fred Bear Showdown myself. lovely bow that spits arrows out very hard.

It's a 60lb draw weight. I think I need a range finder due to inexperience though.

I just brought my 80# martin into the shop to have the cables & string replaced and they swapped out the knocks for a knocking loop, well, they changed the string but not the cables! The thing exploded in my face. I wasn't hit and i got 10 points but still! jeeze. Be careful, have fun and remember to be consistant in the way you draw your bow and where you stop, and also if youre going to adjust the draw weight do even turns on both top and bottom. nice setup! I go between compound and traditional depending on my mood.

Sweet! I am hunting with a #55 recurve this year, but my son just gave me a brand new #70 TEC Hunter compound. I took the sights off and am practicing for next year.

not bad bubba.. i shoot a bowtech tomkat. i would advise closing that group in though at 20yds bc its only going to get worse the further out you go. i have to shoot at different patterns bc i have a tendacy to place an arrow in an arrow..practice practice practice is the key there.. you will get it.. you are doing well for a new person..... that being said, do not shoot over 30yds if you can. too many folks get too cocky and shoot 35-40-50yds for a deer and most only injure the deer not kill it. a lot can happen in flight (wind, deer moving, limbs, etc etc).. i purposely place my bow hunting stands within 25 yrds of where my target will walk in or stroll by.

another tip, get up in your stand, use a range finder and mark you trees at 10-30yds.. deer comes rolling by you dont have to guess;).. dropped many in a good pace bc i never had to guess at yardage.. eventually you will see that you can range them without any help bc you get used to the range between the trees and the stand. hope that made sense. i am typing fast.. have a meeting in a few.

good luck this season. i cant wait. bow hunting is the fly fishing of hunting. once you becomen a good bow hunter, your gun hunting skills will surely increase dramatically bc you learn to use cover and WIND. i cannot stress how much the WIND will play a part in that kind of up front and personnal hunting.. cover is 2nd camo is 3rd

btw its a good bow you have.. once you kill your first with it, you will be addicted.. i dont like to gun hunt that much now.. you do not get the rush that you do with bow hunting.. granted you can get quick kills and meat but half the fun for me is the hunt itself..

that is awesome... one day ill get into traditional (real man) archery. :D

right on Brian.. congrats on your new bow... and good luck out there this year..

i have been a trad. archer/bowhunter for many years... i love the simplicity of a nice longbow or recurve.. i never quite understood compounds, they're waaay too complicated, at least for me they are anyways...:o

do you hunt with yours? if so what

i do.. but not as often as i would like of course...:( i primarily hunt turkey and small game and sometimes deer and hogs... i have access to a small 20 acre private property here in the Santa Cruz mtns..

I have a compound that I target shoot with. Ive never hunted with a bow. My dad has a fifty year old Brown Bear I believe.

Recurves are great. I had a 55# DH Hunter that I loved until I got my Howard Hill. Don't let anyone tell you different - 55# is more than enough bow for anything you want to hunt in North America.

It's a blast and lots of folks really like the simplicity of it (not to mention the light weight - heh). For me, that's the ultimate hunting tool - simple, light and lethal.

What's that you're drawing there?

What's that you're drawing there?

that is a 47# - 58 in. longbow made by Ca. bowyer Steve Abbott.. it's a sweet shooting little bow.. out of all of the many bows i have(8), this one is by far my favorite and see's the most action..:) it sports a cocobollo riser, with osage on the face of the limbs and yew on the belly..

Brian welcome to the world of bowhunting! I have been bowhunting for 31 years now. Pick up a decent rangefinder and pre range all of your shooting lanes when you hang your stand. If you are going to hunt from an elevated stand practice from it. remember when shooting from a stand bend at the waist or your shots will go high.Pick a spot and you will have fresh back straps! I shoot a Bowtech allegiance with Carbon express maxima arrows. I shoot Slicktrick fixed blade broadheads. great blood trails. in the last 6 years i have not had a deer go more than 40 yards after being shot.

Best of luck and good hunting!

Mike
