Its Bow Time!!

that is a 47# - 58 in. longbow made by Ca. bowyer Steve Abbott.. it's a sweet shooting little bow.. out of all of the many bows i have(8), this one is by far my favorite and see's the most action..:) it sports a cocobollo riser, with osage on the face of the limbs and yew on the belly..

Great looking bow! I have a thing for D shaped longbows (hence my Howard Hill Halfbreed).

Brian welcome to the world of bowhunting! I have been bowhunting for 31 years now. Pick up a decent rangefinder and pre range all of your shooting lanes when you hang your stand. If you are going to hunt from an elevated stand practice from it. remember when shooting from a stand bend at the waist or your shots will go high.Pick a spot and you will have fresh back straps! I shoot a Bowtech allegiance with Carbon express maxima arrows. I shoot Slicktrick fixed blade broadheads. great blood trails. in the last 6 years i have not had a deer go more than 40 yards after being shot.

Best of luck and good hunting!

Mike

good advice. shocked i didnt mention it. use your hip as a pivot. practice practice practice practice.. when you think you have it mastered. practice more.

Also fun to learn to shoot instinctively (no sights, etc.) and from the ground. Tree stands are great and I wouldn't knock them but I have noticed that the deer where I hunt tend to look up now - they never used to.

Good stuff - I'm eager for the fall.

Good looking bow...PSE makes a good bow  I shoot a 2008 Ross Cardiac...30" Draw / 62# pull. I shoot Carbon Express Maxima Hunters.

If I were you I would switch over to Cabon arrows ...I like 'em alot better than alum. ! Keep practicing & have fun

Congrats on your new bow. Archery is a blast...
I don't think I could ever go back to rifle hunting. There just isn't enough challenge in it for me.

For me its playing the game. Being in close to animals, and watching them in their element, when they don't know you are there.

Don't get to wrapped up in which bow you get, or what cams they have.
The biggest difference is the way different cams will draw.

Whichever bow you shoot, make sure it is tuned correctly and that it fits you.
Spend the money to have good strings and cables installed. That is money well spent no matter what kind of bow you shoot. Compound bows aren't real pretty when a string comes apart.

To many people spend a lot of money every year, buying a new bow that is 5 fps faster. What is the latest and greatest this year, will be obsolete next year and worth about half of what you paid for it. The animals don't care who made the bow :D

I started out years ago with a Browning. It was a great bow, but the draw cycle wasn't great. I seriously injured my arm, so I switched to Mathews, because the draw cycle worked for me.

Good luck on your first season. Practice, practice, practice
The first animal you get with a bow will be magical

hey OP, see how he keeps his hand open before he shoots? you do the same. you only "catch" the bow after you shoot. keeping your fingers open helps to keep you from torqueing your bow and throwing the accuracy off. the bow will not fly out of your hands. took me forever to learn this :D

Also try to keep your elbow in line with your arrow at full draw (like in the pic) Like Hung-solo said relaxe your hand & DON'T GRIP THE BOW :thumbdn: let the grip of the bow rest in the center of your thumb pad at fulldraw ! It takes alot of practice to get yourself into these habits but it will make all the difference in your shot ;) Keep shooting & have fun !

no joke. once i learned these little tips my groupings were twice as good and a lot more consistant.

Thanks guys. I am hoping over torquing isn't my problem but I kind of hope it is so I can fix that hopefully.
