it632ret started a obsession for me!!! ever since he posted the pics of his swell end/equal end knives on the "new and improved thread", i have been on a never-ending journey for one!!! i bought a old beatup remington swell-end, but dang it its not a schrade!! i search high and low, stalk ebay like a hungry panther, even look at antique stores, flea markets, junk stores, and even ask strangers to see their knives!!! i have combed thru days and weeks of stores and sights but to no avail!!! its become a thorn in my wifes side, she says i used to care more about hunting and fishing than her, but now a damn knife rules my thoughts!!! i sit and stare at the knife in the second pic in the top left hand side, and i think i have just about ruined my keyboard from salivating all over it!!! the sweet curves of the knife, the gentle bone handles, the shine from the bolsters....its just to much!!!!! i dont know how much longer i can go on without one of these knives!!! some people say that the hunt is part of the fun, well, i can tell u, they LIE!!! its so disappointing to see a beautiful knife, only to open it up and see CHINA firmly stamped into the tang!! my soul cannot rest till i get my hands on a knife like that!! thanks it632ret, thanks alot!!!

Damn!!

That was one downright serious, lower than a snakes belly, crawling through a hundred yards of broken glass, in the fast lane of the Superstition Freeway at rush hour, picking glass and gravel from the road rash, blue ribbon winning grovel.

Well Done!!

It sounds like Fireman has a serious case of Schradeaholism!
My case is nowhere near as severe. I can forget about Schrades for several minutes at a time, (like when they anaesthetise me for surgery). :D

Congratulations Fireman.....I think you just took First Place in the Schrade Grovel contest!
(Not that we were having such a contest, but if we were you would win hands down!)

that knife is so dang beautiful!!!! with the awesome propeller shield, and the thing is, i know this knife would be just like my hunting dog......perfect!!! i would crawl thru the bowels of hell and kick the devils butt for it!! i have ran around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to find one. oh, my wife found a bare-headed jack, but it doesnt even begin to compare!!! i even have my 5yr old looking for one like it!!! she looks at the flea markets for it while i run frantically from table to table, only to be disappointed in crappy, worthless knives that i wouldnt even waste my time on breaking much less buying! at night while my wife is trying to get my attention, i am laying there with visions of it in my pocket! while the superbowl was on tv, i was out on the back porch going thru a levines knife book trying to find knives like it! when we eat steak, i imagine the cruddy jap knife in my hand is that beauty that he owns!!! i know, it seems wierd to some, and some may not understand my obsession with it, but dangit, to me its the most beautiful thing ever!!! i can imagine it fitting in my pocket like pee wee reese's glove fit him!!! i just know it, someday a judge will be saying "sir please explain to the courtroom why u were running naked down the highway screaming about a knife?" what can i do??? i feel like john hinkley over jody foster!!! the pressure is to much!! i search and search and beg and plead with anyone who i even think has one like this, but all for nothing!!! yea, i am suffering, may even drive me to drinking!! i actually thought the other day about hopping a train and hoboing around to try to find one like it!! i wont give up, i must have a knife like it!! look at the pics guys, u will understand!!! ya'll please keep me in ya'lls prayers, i fear i may soon lose what little bit of a mind i have left!!! as for now, i am going home and sulk and cry and daydream about that beautiful knife for awhile!

Do you by chance play a game called "poker?" You might just offer to wager something suitable on a hand or two with that knife as the brass ring.

Oh, yes. Nice well developed grovel. Spicy, a bit of sentiment thrown in. You did leave out the self flagilation though.

Codger

Codger, El Lobo,
You both have been totally out classed.
The Fireman has both 1st and 2nd place wins for his total blowout grovel.
I am beyond impressed.
How can we help find relief for Fireman from his agony? Should we?
Should we feed him constant links of pictures without information as to where the item can be found?
Can he survive the standard 3 year wait for the one item that eludes the average collector?
How long did LT wait for his Kipsy Kut?
The teasing should now commense.
:D

Hang in there you only have another 2 years or so of constant fruitless searching.

Oh what knife were you looking for?

P.S. one mistake in the grovel Its Lt not it.. Im irv after all..

I honestly do not remember which one you mean. Here are a few taken pretty much at random. Some better than others. The Trappers are kind of neat these are the only two models with the arrow or torpedo shields. The utilitys are a scout version and a regular ( no bail no engraving on shield ) a couple of old propellor. and a 2 bladed equal end ( handle ). The last pic is a matched set of Canal St I just did up a display case and this is the board. Other wise to much glare ( taking the pic through the glass) and I do not know what to do to the carmera to stop the glare I know there is something I have talked to the camera, threatened it ect. However It will not listen I cannot put it in keep lock since I need to use it. Perhapes I should have been a mechanic for some of the years I worked in jail just so that I would have a bit more thought reference ability. Enjoy the pics Great knives are still being made. LT PS all the old ones are Schrade Cuts.

I believe this may be the knife to which you have made casual reference. Actually this one is fairly scratched up however since it still has its etch I have left it that way. This particular model easy open jack was made in carbon and stainless steel. Now in those days ( pre 46 ) stainless was the wave of the future and in heavy demand. Schrade only made a couple of patterns in this material. Frankly its blade material rarity and etch were why I wanted it. This model is the stainless version it is blade etched STAINLESS STEEL and is tang marked SS. I have included pics of the ads for both versions. There were also numerous slight variations on this pattern so it should be fairly easy to find. Should you ever have a desire to acquire one. Good Hunting LT.

I hate to interupt this grovel but I have a question. When did they start using stainless steel in knives.Toby

Well the question is really when did they start to switch to it. Schrade Under Schrade Cut, as I mentioned only had a couple of knives with stainless blades it was expensive. Top of the line. Just like aluminum handles in the 18 hundreds were top of the line the complexity of making Aluminum actually made it a semi precious metal. When production methods made this common metal easy to obtain it became quite inexpensive. Same with stainless same with fiberglass I have mentioned before the first person in our neighborhood to get a fiber glass fishing rod was the local butcher he showed it off in my fathers barber shop and everyone was amazed he also paid more than anyone else had ever thought of paying for a fishing rod. Schrade had an automatic in stainless that appears in a 20 something catalogue ( this is from memory so ???? ) Again it was more of an oddity. The word Rostfre or INOX actually means rust free or stainless. That would be about as far back ( if that far ) that those appear. I love it when someone advertises a knife as a ROSTFRE or INOX brand from the tang. As far as an actual first time I guess someone would have to look it up. If I had to guess I would say gents knives in the very late 20 tys or early 30tys. After WWII it became more and more common. by the 50tys most gents knives and of course by the 60 tys lines like the Uncle Henrys ect were entirely stainless. Still I would bet that there would be older exceptions which appeared as soon as this metals manufacture was devised most likely sailors knives and the such. It is an interesting question I look forward to seeing some information regarding the topic. Safety Razor blades were mostly blue blades stainless really did not become highly used until the sixtys. Of course due to sharpening qualitys I have never seen an old straight razor with a stainless blade. Amazing at the end Schrade wanted and was switching over to all stainless it is an interesting circle. Sorry I could not give a more exact answer. LT

Sorry Fireman, but I already have dibs on the adoption grovel. And I throw in yard work too. :D

But good groveling indeed, a little strong, but we Schradeaholics are a compassionate bunch.

You haven't suffered enough yet to be worthy. You still have to crawl on your hands and knees through a pile of opened Taylors. :p

Another one with the 'sickness', boys...;)

Glenn

well glenn, i may have ya beat! i will also do the yardwork, but i will also keep all the beautiful young college ladies away from him while he relaxes by the pool that i will have codger build!! haha! in all seriousness, am i the only one who feels a certain arora when i hold a sweet vintage knife?? i love'em!! the propeller shield is a beauty too. i aint been collecting long, but i love that shield! i am looking at a few knives on ebay right now with shields like that, but as always, they are not schrade! people have wisened up on schrades, and i personally think that the older ones are disappearing with a quickness! well, i suppose i better get back to chasing my dream knife huh?.....(walking away slowly with tears in the eyes..)

Amazing a young man dreams of knives an old man dreams of being young, and has the knives. Trust me your end of the deal is better. Now as far as adoption well if either of you fellows has a sister I might be interested. I have always been a student of the Woody Allen life style. AHH SOOO. LT

ha! i got 7 sisters, they range from 42-21, i am adopted, so lets get to trading!!! how far are ya from sc?? they all live here, and well....heck, u can have'em all!!!

trust me, youth is overated. to be wise and experienced is better than young and stupid. i like to think i have "outgrown" my peers, but sometimes i wonder! life is to short to be diplomatic though, but i am happy where i am, and hope o only be happier when i get where i am going.

Well, I can't compete with 7 sisters, only 2, and one's married. the other's a career woman, has a penguin collecting habit ????, but she tries real hard. I'm not sure it's a fair trade, though. (for you :p )

Did I mention I'm a cat lover???
