It's in the bag.

I began this as answer to Guyon in a FEEDBACK thread Recommendation? countycomm.com? but realized I'd be hijacking the original topic. Still, bags are important equipment, so they get their own thread here.

Just placed an order there for their new large B.O.B.

I've been working around a few bags this year, trying to get the right mix.

I got a Maxpedition MPB which didn't do what I wanted but turned out to be a great mobile office/briefcase. Big

I got the County Comm BOB (Bailout Bag), IS-100 (72 Hour Bag), Sat-Com Bag, and XL BOB.

The BOB works for what I wanted, a field bag for walks in the woods: camera, binoculars, etc. and lunch. Pockets all around the outside and a divider inside. Highly recommended if you want accessibility in a compact package you won't overload.

The IS-100 is immense. You cannot imagine how big: when it's full, it is almost a cube, it's so wide. Tremendous capacity, tough as can be, incredibly well organized pockets everywhere. When I toss my laundry in it, I need a double washer for what it can carry. If you're car camping, this bag will hold everything you need, and you'll be able to find it when you need it.

By the way, the Responder Pouch/Bag fits perfectly in one of the IS-100's smaller front pockets.

The SatCom bag is "cute". It is very similar to the S.O. Tech Go Bag, but without the 3 big pockets on the outside. It's a long narrow bag with an across the chest strap, which is broad, especially on the shoulder, and very secure and comfortable. Long flat zippered pockets on the sides for small items. It makes a decent day bag, especially if you modularize to keep everything from falling together. It carries weight well, like three 2-liter bottles of soda. I think it's going to end up as an emergency/medical go bag. I can grab it and go, and still have hands (and shoulders) free for other gear.

The XL BOB is the original reason for this review. I wanted to tell Guyon what he's getting. :) I hesitated to get one but I'm glad I did. The photos don't show how much larger it is than the original BOB. It's a great daily bag which holds a few items I toss in, like a snack pack, and will hold a load of items if I stop off to shop, approximately 3 plastic grocery bags worth. It has the same outside pockets as the original BOB, but the pockets are larger, so I could use it as a woods bag if I needed more capacity, with everything in the correponding BOB pockets I'm used to. Fully and heavily loaded, it surprised me at how comfortably it rides with the strap across my chest.

This gives me an idea for another giveaway. I have a Duluth Trading messenger bag that I no longer use. Great capacity, good solid materials, padded laptop pocket, lots of internal organizer pockets. Pretty good schoolbag. Anybody here need it? Post what you could use it for and I'll ship it off to the lucky winner -- probably the first poster :)

No, the one I've got is much sturdier. I think they discontinued it about a year ago. Let's see if someone wants it who hasn't won anything lately, but I'll keep you in mind! :)

Nice post Esav I have the smaller BOB from Conty Comm and like it a lot .I have long admired Deluth products and could use a bag for my recently purchased lap top I want to carry it on my daily hikes on our rail trail here, I try to spend most of the day out on the trail and plan to use the lap top as an E-book for references and reading.

mkhop, the padded laptop compartment looks like 13" wide x 9" high. But the inside of the bag itself is about 18" wide x 11" high, so it can take a good-sized laptop one way or another.

To give you an idea of their relative sizes, I just took my (temporarily overstuffed) BOB and slid it inside the messenger bag.

Email me with your name & address at ebhausman (at) gmail (dot) com if you want it and I'll send it off to you.

Wow is the quality of those County Comm BOBs? Are they as good as the Maxpedition? What about water resistance? Thanks!!

Thanks for the reviews Esav!

I got the XL B.O.B. this morning.:D I think you're right. This is going to make a great daily bag for the office/laptop, and hold a lot of gear for weekend use.

Esav - I've never ordered from them before, but I think I may put in an order for the First Responder pouch. I've been looking for something to replace the ammo can that I keep my S/FAK in for my car.

I also like the BOB and would be nice to leave packed in the closet.

Ugh - It's Christmas day.... why not order it for myself :)

I LIKE that County Comm BOB a lot:thumbup:

Just hope I can get it shipped to Scandinavia at a bearable price, looks very useful and compact, just the job!

I have been using a County Comm BOB about a year ago for my ARES/CERT "go bag" and for it it is just about prefect. Plenty of room for all my radio gear, and well suited for a lot of paperwork. Very tough bag, well made. I am thinking about getting one of the larger ones for my over niter.

I've been looking for a good messenger bag for my Macbook when I ride my bike to work. It sounds like this is the ticket. If it's still available I'd like to have it, please.

Thanks.

Pretty much the same. County Comm likes Maxpedition themselves, and I believe the BOB was originally made for them by Maxpedition, now it's made by Maratac. My current BOB and XL BOB are much tougher than the original BOB I had. I don't worry about rain getting into the main compartment. But the BOB design has outside pockets which are more vulnerable to weather, so keep that in mind.

The Responder's inside measurements are about 7 x 11 x 3. It's very wellmade, so it will hold heavy gear or ammo easily.

Ted, let's see what mkhop decides, because he asked first. If he passes on it, it's yours.

Great bags, I never looked at the county comm offering before. Thanks for the review Esav!

Thanks for the link. I just ordered the sat com bag. It's just what I've been looking for.
Can't wait to load it all up and take pics.
Thanks again and happy holidays!
