It's Just Convenient.

For the past two years my real world EDC carry has been the Victorinox executive. Its a great little pocket knife with some tool capacity in it for light jobs with small Phillips screws. Its been teamed up my Leatherman squirt, and they make a dynamic duo for everyday life in suburbia. The squirt gives more tool capacity with better screw drivers, file and pliers, while the executive is a cutter for opening packages, twine, mail, and fishing line.

Both have the convenience of being able to drop in a pocket and forget about it until needed.

I always carry a Swiss Army knife or a multi-tool on me (except when flying).
They are definitely the most convenient.
The SAKs that I carry these days are usually the Tourist or the Climber.
My multi-tool of choice has been the Leatherman Wave, but I just bought a Crunch and so far I'm liking it.

I have a three knife system which I like to call 'regular carry': a Victorinox Rambler that lives on my keychain, an alox SAK (I like the Cadet or Pioneer) and a CRK (I prefer a Large or Small 21 Insingo.) I have yet to find a system that works better for me. I mostly only swap out my carry on days off from work and only because I love knives and have a lot of 'em... :D

The Rambler is actually the key component, and the only knife I carry that never changes. If I couldn't have my Rambler (or some other 58mm SAK with the small scissors and pick & tweezer combo), I'd probably opt for a Victorinox Compact just for sheer utility. And to be perfectly honest, I don't really need to carry a one-hander for EDC--I could (and have) get/got by just fine with only a SAK... of course, YMMV.
Wow, an Alox & Insingo!
What a great combo. I like it.

My SAK Spartan. It looks boring, heck it is boring and the blade steel is soft. But it simply works. It's there when I need it and I need it constantly. It's convenient to the point where I can't seem to go back to carrying anything else. Just an example from today, I had my pocket watch looked at, I thought the battery had gone dry. The idiot in the shop put the case lid back on upside down jamming up the crown so I couldn't adjust it. Driving home I pass the watch and my Spartan over to my wife, the awl pops the case open easily, by the time I get out of the car my watch is working perfectly. Stuff seems to happen every day that requires use of a pry bar (bottle opener), screwdriver (can opener), metal finger nail (can opener), small or big blade, corkscrew (opening knots), etc. To the extent that going back to a blade only knife simply palls. Despite me having a long list of ones I want! I assume my SAK's and my wallet have some kind of deal going on, after all they live in the same pocket :).

The Spartan is probably the best knife that Vic offers for the money.

I certainly have learned to enjoy Spartans.

I like the Cadet more but the Spartan cost less and is one of my “go to” recommendations for regular folks.

Been using a socom elite tanto and PM2 while leaving the Hinderers in the safe. Still in full accessory mode.

I like the Spartan but not enough to own one - no nail file. Switch that pen blade out for a nail file, I'd be onboard! I think one of the Sportsman models has the file but then it has no scissors. ;)

That's why I like the Tourist...it's a slightly smaller Spartan!
The size difference doesn't really effect it's performance, but it does make it a tad more pocket friendly.

Now for the sixty-four dollar question. What two knives do you use because you find them easier to carry or just generally more convenient?

I think you mean which 5....or 6 knives do I carry....not counting my Leatherman Wave...because I don't count that as a knife....even though it has two blades.....

I carry a Rambler on my keychain to compliment my Spartan. Fills in the gaps.

I do have a Benchmade Crooked River as well, but it only comes out for special occasions.
Ok, so my mind is not playing tricks on me. I knew you had something else.

It’s not any of my business but, why a second Bugout?
You have seemed to be content with just one or two knives.

I finally caved and bought the green/gray version. I have both on my EDC tray and just pick one each day based on the color I feel like (i.e. what I'm wearing basically). Literally half my closet is full of things that go with the blue and the other half of my closet is full of things that go with the green lol. I'll most likely be selling the Crooked River soon because it doesn't get used, just carried on special occasions. Those events weren't happening much before but now with COVID they haven't been happening at all, so there's no justification for it.
