It's like living in a bad Christmas movie!

After a very profitable year (but a change in management) and just a few days before Christmas, there's an announcement that the firm is restructuring and closing the office where I work. Not to worry though, they'll keep paying salaries through the end of the year, and then a generous severance package (two week's pay!!!). It feels like the set-up for a bad Christmas movie; sort of like "Office Christmas Party," only without the party.

Great news for people on the waiting lists for some of the upcoming releases, though. I expect I'll be throwing quite a few back in the trough, starting with some lovely Park Rangers.

Damn man, so sorry to hear. Real crappy thing for them to do, just as the holidays arrive. I hope the new year brings you the best of luck.

Sorry to hear that brother.... :( God always finds away to protect his children. Just stay vigilant and don't lose focus. I'm sure you'll get something better than before. For what it's worth, From my family to yours, I hope you can get past the negative news and have a Merry Christmas and may the new years bring you lots of health, stability and wealth.

Sorry to hear this John. I’m sure you’ll be ok. Good men that wanna work will always find work. Sometimes things happen for a reason. Best of luck to you brother. Merry Christmas and best wishes. Scott

I'll be fine. I was not at all prepared for this, but I didn't burn any bridges at the place I used to work, and they wanted me back. Or at least were willing to take me back. Sucks having zero bargaining power, though. The money's nowhere near what it used to be, at least for now.

Ya never know. Had a layoff in 2003. I never bad mouthed company. It had been very good to me, and the layoff was a chainsaw trimming across the board. Got called and offered a new start-up position less than 2 years later, all time restored, all vacation as I had it, and more $$ than I made before.

Prayers all turns out well man.

Timing does suck a bit though...

Sending Christmas good wishes to you John. I had this exact thing happen to me once, we had a plant shut down for the holiday break and received a plant closing letter on Christmas eve, it was a very vindictive company that retaliated for the employees voting in a union just weeks before - at the time it felt like the end of the world but looking back, it was the best possible thing that could have happened. It was not fun to go through but everything happens for a reason that we won't always understand at the time. It always works out, you just have to believe in yourself without the slightest of doubt. Keep the faith brother and hold your head high with pride!

Sorry John...
Some heartless number cruncher, couldn't wait until after the day...
Hope he gets a tack in his sock!
Good reason to let loose, make sure you're hungover for the last week...!

Seriously tho, I hope you can salvage a Merry Christmas!
And I wish you a muxh better New Year...

That is some crap timing, JTT. Sorry about that. Hope it turns around quickly for you and works out for the best in the long run—these things so often do. Best wishes for a better 2018, pard.

Man I’m sorry to hear that John. I used to work for a huge company right out of collage. They did crap like this all the time. Furloughed ppl on Christmas Eve etc. It was always bad news comes on fridays and good news comes on mondays at that corporate level. Hope you have some good news coming soon John and praying you can salvage a Merry Christmas.

Wow. Very sorry to hear this.
I really do hope things turn out well.
Merry Christmas.
