Recommendation? It's That Time Again... Any Recommendations?

I've been using my Benchmade 943 for a couple years now and absolutely love it (apart from the softer than expected S30V); the blade shape, blade/overall length, weight and opening/locking mechanisms are fantastic.

Trouble is, I've got that itch again... And I don't know where to go from here! I'm definitely into the more "classic" or "gentlemanly" folders; not a big fan of Ken Onion designs or the gimmicky looking bodies.

Any suggestions?

Are you looking for something that would be very similar to the 943, since you know you love the shape, dimensions, weight? or are you looking to branch out?

Is it fair to assume you want a folder, or perhaps are you looking for a complimentary fixed blade?

There's a GM3 on the exchange for a good price.

Do you have a price range in mind, before I make any other suggestions? (The GM3 was the favorite of my knife purchases last year.)

No first hand experience with them, but when I think of "gentlemanly" Mcusta's Tactility comes to mind. Specifically the Cocobolo/Damascus model. For the price it's pretty tough to beat when it looks as good as it does.

A price range would definitely help.

Maybe a traditional slipjoint for something different? GEC or Case. I've been looking at the Case Bose Tribal lock (I like a lock myself).

Buck 110 (or Ranger if you want a smaller blade) with S30V + various handle materials might be an option. I like G-10 myself..

ZT 450 G-10 (I'm personally not a fan of metal or CF handles really)

Sounds like you want something different than the 943, but the 940-1 has the reverse tanto blade with a harder steel than s30v and carbon fiber scales.

Thanks for the suggestions folks!

I'd like to stay ≥$200 for price, and for style I definitely prefer something similar to a "utilitarian" EDC with pocket clip and smooth joint action. Ease of deployment is something I've loved about the Benchmade knives. I too am no fan of metal bodies; very counterproductive.

So far I do like the look of the ZT 450 in G10, though I'm not sure how I like the lack of thumb stud, especially in situations that require sensitivity to "blade shock".

Spyderco Gayle Bradley 2. Very similar in size/ergos to the 943 IMO.

Benchmade Bugout with new scales. I don't think I'll ever carry my 940-1 after getting this one:

Not sure how dexterous you are, but when ever I need to open a flipper quietly/discreetly I just put my thumb on the spine of the blade to brace it then push a little with my pointer finger to pop past the detent. Once past the detent I use my thumb on the flat or primary grind of the blade and thumb it open slowly. You can also do the same maneuver but instead of your thumb on top of the spine, just use your other hand.

Southern Grind Spider Monkey? I little over your budget but just a great ED size and the action is very smooth. Carbon fiber on both sides w/ a liner lock.

$200, and up, then. Awesome - I'm sure we'll find something you like, then.
I saw the Spider Monkey listed above, and i will second that recommendation... I'd have suggested the copper version (it's better, imo), but you don't like metal handles.
What about framelocks with a g10 side? (Thinking Hinderer MP1)

On the chance that you actually meant <$200, molletta periodically posts Enigma knives in the Traditionals section. They're slipjoints with modern supersteel blades, and worth a look. If you're open to a small fixed blade, check out the LT Wright Patriot or Bradford Guardian 3.

Protech Godson is my go to gentleman dress up nice knife

Might also have something to do with the fact that the blade is actually designed for slicing and cutting. :D;)

Beautiful knife you have there abbazabba

This is true. The 940/943 cut like a splitting maul compared to the GB2. Bugout isn't bad either.

I've been hugely impressed with the Spyderco Chaparral. So much better than I was expecting.
