How come they don't hire some large youth to test the products before they put the handles on?

They are "supposed" to be doing just that.

If I may ask, what is the turn around time from something being made to it showing up at your doorstep? Just wondering when the possible, and I stress possible, problems might show up and run through. Thanks

Better to test it and be sure, regardless.

"Yes honey, I really do need to hack down that (ugly) hedge to make sure my khuk is safe!!!! " :D :D

"I sure hope the Foxy's Follys get through that period without a hitch!"

That is a good point. The timing would be about right.:(

I'm at a loss here. I am not familar with some of the terminology or what Uncle Bill is telling us. Would someone be so kind as to explain? Thanks a bunch.

Ben

Dasein is holiday time for the kamis and they usually get in a hurry and or drink too much. Result is we usually get4 to 6 tang failures. Test copiously for next two months.

Give it some good wacks on both sides of the blade as well as the spine against a tree or something. Just make sure that you have a clear line of fire in case the tang does snap and the blade flies off.

On the seventh day of Daesin my Uncle gave to me... 7 chipped edges
6 broken blades
5 snapped tangs
4 soft edges
3 curvy lines
2 cracked handles
All replaced on HI's warrantee.

Shouldn't it be "Fiiiiiiive creeping chos!"

Another excellent reason to get a chiruwa AK. :)

I don't think the full tang chiruwa K's break. Correct me if I'm wrong, Unnca Bill, but most tang failures are in the traditional design blades, right?

Red -

There is an HI page with a little bit on Dasein:

http://himalayan-imports.com/dasein-misc.html

Dasheera is part of celebrating the worship the epic hero Rama gave to the Goddess Durga (who is something like the Goddess of Righteous Battles - she is also usually considered as another aspect of the Goddesses Kaaliimaa and Parvati) in order to help him defeat the Rakshasa-Demon Ravana and rescue his (Rama's) wife, Seetaa.

A detailed description of Dasain (also called Dasheera or Durga-Puja) is here:

http://www.rumela.com/events/festival_durga_puja.htm

And right on the heels of Dasheera/Dasein is Divali (also called Deepavali) - the Festival of Lamps:

http://www.sscnet.ucla.edu/southasia/Culture/Festivals/Diwali.html

deepavali is also considered part of the celebration of Rama's victory - symbolising his homecoming. though also, there is an idea of light as dispelling darkness - and knowledge dispelling ignorance. and it is held during the dark part of the Hindu month Aswin (roughly october/november).

We call that "Tihar" -- my favorite of all the Hindu holidays. Festivities rather remind me of Christmas the way it used to be here 60 years ago.

If the steel is hot and the kami gets water on it the dayumed thing is likely to break, Chiruwa or standard, makes no difference. :p
