Its that time of year, what traditional are you taking in the woods

I'm hunting and fishing tomorrow and Friday - whitetail deer hunt until about 10:30, come out and fix lunch, go bass fish in the farm pond until about 3:00, then back into the woods for the evening hunt. Works out to be a pleasant day without having to choose between two great activities! OH

Not sure if this counts as a "Traditional" :)
Home made clip point, semi sharpened swedge (sharp near the point), 6" D2 blade, Black Walnut handle

Sure, it's traditional. Nice knife too.
Thanks. It gets "baptized in blood" hopefully next month, and we'll see how well it works. It was sort of an ad hoc design made from a odd shaped piece of leftover D2. I had a design drawn out on it, but didn't actually follow it. (the point ended up on the opposite end from the design drawn on the steel) I just started cutting, and wasn't sure what would emerge in the end. LOL. The butt was not as big as I would have wanted, but it was the best I could do with what I had to work with.

Oooo I love these threads. Gives a glimpse into what woodsmen actually carry versus the "Top Ten Knives for Deer Hunting" articles. This pair was carried for my past couple moose. A Bark River Mountain Main 5" in 3V and a Buck 110. I carry one of those utility hook knives for the opening cuts as well. Really saves the edge of my skinning knife from the mud and grit all through the belly and leg hair. The Mountain Man can be seen on the neck in the second photo. My German friend helping pack out the moose. Notice his face keen with nieve excitement before he begins the long slog through mud and marsh to the boat. Little did he know the effort required... Maybe for the best. Ha! We laugh about it now that it lays in the freezer.

This is a great thread! So far this year Ive been carrying a Hess Whitetail or a Hess Frontiersman. Plus I usually take my Victorinox Camper along, it comes in handy.
I havent gotten out much yet, but Im hoping to change that. :)

I mix it up depending on what I am hunting. My GEC 23's get a lot of work during squirrel and deer season. Deer season the Randall mini 27 is always with me. Dove hunting will often be a mix but the Northwoods Esky is used a lot on dove.

I took Grandpa’s old Western into the mountains of Idaho last weekend. It took care of a small whitetail buck my daughter got. The Victorinox Hunter also got a little work too.

The next time I head out for deer I plan on taking the Hess along. Later when the late muzzleloader elk season opens I’ll pack the Helle. Still itching to try that one out.
