It's that time... Products Discontinued for 2010

yeah i figure lots has to do with low sales. I always see full serrated and half serrated spydies on sale at websites, thought the khukuri and barong were just too strange looking and expensive (surprised the rock lobster isnt on the list), the cento4 never gets as much attention as the 3, the hossom fixed blades were way too pricey for what you got, and the native 3 was probably outsold by the S30V golden version.

:( I was done buying knives for awhile, but this might make me grab a few more, dangit!

just got my centofante 4 in today and love it! Though, I think I'd love the 3 just as much. Really like the wharnie so far, from the 3 whole things I've had to cut :D

And I had been waiting for the right time to pick up a FFG Native. As my s30v carries so well, and has a perfectly sized blade, IMO. This might be the time, unless there's another FFG native sticking around? I can't keep up with all the different spydie model variations. To be honest, I love the scales on the s30v version (spyder web design, great grip IMO, and looks great) wish I could have the FFG blade in this handle.

I think the Barong would have been a lot more popular, if people had seen one in person. The thing is beautifully made and the blade wickedly sharp. I love mine. Glad I picked up at least one before they are gone and a year or so down the road loved and sought after!

:(

Barong & Khukuri are the two that I expected to go and the two that I will mourn.

Sucks, although on the flip side we can probably expect some newer alternative designs from the mind of Ed Schempp. :) I guess we will see next month when the 2010 catalog comes out.

There is a few names on that list I didn't expect to see. I presume we will be
getting some great knives in the next year or two so it can't be all bad :)

Just my gut feeling from reading all the posts on this forum, but I'd say that it's a safe bet that there will be a LOT more offerings of FFG blades.

I could be wrong about this, but lockbacks may be losing favor to the liner lock models? Why? One hand open and close. Maybe that's why the Sage is staying and the Caly is going away.
Think you may be reading too much into things. Take the Dragonfly. A new G-10 version was just introduced and the etched SS version which is being dropped is being replaced by a new multi-color etched SS one. Take the Delica and Endura. While some slow movers are being dropped, the prodigious number of color, blade style, steel, and edge types available virtually insured some would sell poorly. Not to mention that Sal has said new colors are in the works. And, as has been mentioned, the CF Caly 3 is not on the list, so we can assume it will still be in the lineup. Who knows, it might even be augmented by an FRN version.

Truth is, until the 2010 catalog comes out, we don't really have the full picture. We know what's going but, for the most part, can only assume it is not being replaced, although I'm sure in some cases those assumptions will prove to be correct. Doubt we'll see replacement versions of any of the collaboration models that are going, with the possible exception of the Centofante 4.

I went ahead and ordered another CF Caly 3. Although I have a CF and a G-10, The CF is one of my favorite EDC knives for work and I'd hate to lose it and not have a replacement around. I wonder if there will be another generation coming, possibly with screw construction?

I hope that's the case. I have a UKPK and love it. If the Caly 4 has a choil like the UKPK, a locking design and screw construction, I will definitely pick one up. Here's hoping that a Caly 4 is dropping next year. *crosses fingers*

Well had to get another SuperHawk, cause I think it's gonna be pretty in demand down the road, with it's CF and compression-lock. I just know I'd kick myself if I didn't pay the 115 now. (this makes 3)

On a lighter note, the C28PET Etched SS Dragonfly now holds the dubious distinction of being the first SKU to appear on the Discontinued Products List two years running. Darn thing's taking longer to die than a soap opera character. :D

I'm one to talk: I just spend upwards of $400 for stuff on that list I 'had to have before it's gone'.

Superhawk
Serrated Emerson Endura
Centofante 4
G-10 Endura (another one)
FS Paramilitary

I think I'll pick up another Khukiri and possibly a Barong. See what coming to this forum has done? We're all becoming knife hoarders.

It probably never hurts to hoard a few. :)

Wee bit sorry myself to see the Caly go but I can probably still pick one up at some point. Waiting to see some new fun goodies in the future.
