It's the little things! GEC tube designs, etches, and other quirks...

Will, I believe you're correct in that the Marilla logo is very old in design and I also believe the company has been out of business for quite some time now.

Bob (and Charlie), thanks for the info on the Crown Lifter logo. Interesting stuff! I had tried to use a little Google-Fu to find anything related to "Marilla Spring Water" but couldn't really find anything (although Marilla NY kept coming up, I couldn't find anything related to spring water or a bottling company).

John Great Squirrel example, I used to have one of those in Stag. Is that Mammoth or Elk? Whatever, their 440c stainless makes for a really nice knife, just wish they'd be less miserly with it.

Thanks, Will

Agree, would like to see more SS knives. Those covers look like mammoth but are elk, a magnificent animal, taken this year at Rocky Mountain National Park.

Very nice photos and interesting details about and around the GECompany.
Great to see so many different Barlow tubes side by side, and to read soemthing about the historical references of the Crown Lifter design.
After receiving my #85 and my #25, I was wondering about the dents in the bolsters,
which I have seen only on some of the Great Eastern knives...

As far as I see, the crimping/pinching is only done on the Northfields line..?
Maybe just because it looks good, or does it has any other function?

I think you're right. It's one of the special embellishments that the Northfields often have. Others include polished blades, long pulls, swedges, etc.

fun thread Phill. I enjoy the changing of the general Northfield and Tidioute banner stickers on the tubes, I have had all I believe at one time or another. I like that lime green
Norhfield one and the recent Northfield the best. I think there's only been two Tidioutes, a gold one and the eagle one current. We are due for a new Tidioute. I enjoy all the artwork, and pride in craftsmanship.

I'm a huge fan of GEC knives and I really like all the little things they do as well. I save all my tubes of course and enjoy the ones that have stories or are different. The first GEC made knife I bought was back in October and it was the ebony #35 Harness Jack from Charlie. It has a unique label and special story on the back. Now 3 months later I just received my 11th GEC made knife and it to is very unique. This was the only 74 from this run(including the SFO's) that came with a pin and they went with a different label as well.

Let's see, a polished, etched blade with a long pull and swedge. Also pinched, threaded, and slant bolster. I guess GEC decided to use all its options in one knife. The 66 jigged bone Yellow Rose. All that, but no button, lol.

I know I have a few buttons, but I couldn't tell you you which knives they came with. Totally unnecessary.
