It's time

Its the season. We had almost 4 inches of snow here last weekend and had Redneck chowder one night and homemade chili another night...

The redneck chowder is great. Its basically clam chowder with hamburger instead of clams. A little shredded Tillamook mild cheddar and oyster crackers on top

I can't comment on the choice of beers, I drink Keystone light :D
I never go to the fancy microbrews even though I guess we have a few exceptional ones here in Bend. I guess I'm better suited to be drinkin beer around a campfire

Really? Did folks back there get all sostiphicated :D now? If so, I'm really glad. One thing I've missed back there is good microbrews. I didn't really look the last time we were there.

Lots of great ol' timey sodas, and real "lightnin' water", (that's corn liquor to you city clickers), but in my time, no 'real' beer. :(

There was another tradition with one of my uncles - when the first snow falls, my aunt would make a big pot of chicken soup & dumplings; "the boys" would go out on the back porch & have a few sips of (really good, first mash) homemade hooch, then walk around the place in the falling snow and close up the pastures & grazing fields, and throw the first hay of the winter for the farm critters in the barn. An hour of small work in the first snow, with a little "fire in yer belly" as my uncle Claude would say, then homemade chicken soup by the woodstove in the kitchen - life doesn't get any better than that.

Alright. Now I'm ready for the snow.

thx - cpr

Boy, we really don't have the "good life" anymore, what with our modern gadgets and "conveniences", do we? This sounds like heaven to me. Wish I had been there with you.

I believe the area around Asheville (just a short ways from here) is one of the nation's hot spots for various microbrews. I don't care for 'em all but some are pretty tasty. Oh, and there's corn liquor to be found as well. But we won't enable the breaking any laws here on that topic. ;)
