Well, what are you rascals up to this weekend? I'm going hog hunting this morning and dragging along the .17hmr squirrel rifle, too. This is our last weekend for tree rats and a fella has to be prepared, right?
I have some finishing work on a hunter to complete and cut out some mammoth ivory inlays for some handles this evening. Dave Larsen, I'm still using that great ivory I got from you, bless your heart.
I got an order for a stick knife going to a wild hog hunting outfitter in Texas that braves almost certain great bodily harm by stepping in on the wild hog and stabbing the hog in the heart (hopefully). I am considering a hybred bowie/combat knife style, seeing as how he left the design up to me.
Besides some hunters to get done, I have a set of paring knives to complete for a gal. Anyone know a good place to buy some stabilized pink ivory wood?
IG, you got those squirrels fried up yet? You HAVE to make squirrel gravy while you are at it, you know.

There are a lot of folks who go hog hunting and use a knife/sword. There are a few over in the accuratereloading website. One guy uses a custom fighter with I think a 10" blade with ironwood handle. Pretty sweet knife. Pretty sweet piggy also. I was thinking about ordering the texas toothpick damascus blade from Jantz solely for that purpose. it has a 10" blade. Small game season starts in Feb, so I will get to use the shotty! Pigs, squirrels, ,pick one. You can still hunt hogs on public land during small game, just no centerfire rifles.

This weekend I am gonna press on with grinding a fillet knife, maybe grind on a couple skinners, and maybe sand a blade or two to 800 grit. Maybe once it warms up a pinch I will go out back and shoot my Mathews switchback that I got for Christmas, only shot it like maybe a dozen times since.

I am just trying to keep warm. It's to damn cold to work in my cellar shop and I got a heat down there.
You Ole Injun!!!!! I think I am going to save the treerats and pheasants the Jay M. gave me for one of my Mini HI's. I'll cook them up with some rabbits and quails. The Portagee way.  :D ;)

Out to do a little running around today, then into the really cold hot shop to work on the next pattern welded billet. This one will be a really low layer count (28 to be precise) star twist that I plan to double up on itself to get a double row of stars. I'm pretty sure a piece of that will have to be a hidden tang hunter. I've got a big hunk of curly maple and a new bandsaw to try out. With any luck I'll be able to get a blade forged and ground before I have to go back to work Monday. It's been a good week of vacation for me and I really hate to see it end....

Its a cold weekend coming up, with some -30s. I am going cross country skiing. In cold weather cross country skiing keeps you nice and warm, burns calories, and the cold air is loaded with oxygen. Afterwards I will fire up the BBQ and settle in for ribs and an evening of TV.

Went out this morning, borrowed my Brothers pick up so I could go purchase a 100# propane tank. Unfortuately, Airgas was closed on Saturday so I can't forge the guard and pommel for the damascus bowie that I'm working on.

I did go to Radio Shack and bought the last 3 bottles of Ferric Chloride they had in stock, went home mixed up a 3 to 1 batch and continued etching the bowie (which I started etching at IG's last Saturday) and sanding with 1000 grit, then a couple more etches sanding with 1500 grit. The blade looks pretty nice, even cut myself while sanding but didn't notice it until I was wiping the blade with paper towels and saw the red on the paper, oh well, sh@t happens.

Checked out my issue of KI and IG's article, the knife is much nicer in person than in the mag. And yes, it's very good that KI didn't put a picture of IG in there. Way to go IG.

Going to Madison, CT tonight with some friends to check out a Celtic band, the Glengarry Bhoys out of Ontario, it's always fun to see them :D .
