You know, I never asked Ivan that. My guess is it's for looks, but I could be wrong.

I sure am glad you like the knife so much. It is tremendously well made and you could probably chop down a tree with it.

Its not a band-breaker for sure. I think its more for looks, its basically a milled groove, not sharpened, one sided and not even half the depth of the blade.
