Topic says it all. I have a gazillion other knives, but so far, not a single Bowie. The time has come to change that.
Any thoughts?

I've been lusting after a couple here:

Get a Hossom Millenium Black. 12+ inch blade, and weighs almost nothing. This is THE bowie-style blade. Others may be more "tradtional," but Hossom combines tradition with innovative new design features and awesome steel.
Get one. You won't get anything else.

That guy John Fitch makes some that are pretty neat.

Hal, you're not alone. Last month that darn bug bit me too, and I'v been selling off a lot of my folders to fund bowies and such. This is the first illness to which I am happy to fall victim

I think several people who posted here don't realise that just being a large knife doesn't make something a bowie. A bowie is a specific pattern....

JB,

What I've read is that there are many styles of Bowies. The reason is that very few folks actually witnessed the fight that brought the bowie to notoriety but many more read about it in the news of the day. Everybody wanted a "Bowie knife" but, without pictures, knifemakers took off in different fashions. Thus the varying styles of Bowie knives. The commonality is larger sizes overall relative to most belt knives and a design that lends itself to fighting.

In some ways, it's a good thing we didn't get a picture of "The Knife." Some pretty cool patterns emerged by different makers.

JB,

How about this beauty of a "spear point" bowie?

The San Francisco Maker, Michael Price, made some great spearpoint bowies.

Gotta get a spear point for my next "bowie."

Many fine suggestions above. I can highly recommend the works of John Fitch and Kevin Cashen. If you are into forged blades (as I am) check out various ABS smiths and see what appeals to you. My "to get" list just keeps getting longer

Hey guys don't forget the big Randalls! The model 12 with 9, 11, and 13" blades are really very nice.
