  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

I've been bitten by the Spyder. Help me choose my next pick up.

Another one for the Pac salt here.

My father passed earlier this year and I inherited his full serrated pacific salt. I absolutely love it, but I'm too scared to take it out the house in case I lose it. Get one, and use it for me!

Everyone needs a Military.
Best Spyderco model ever made, and one of the better knife patterns ever made no matter the company(IMO anyway),

Yup, this too. ^. My se pacific salt and my Millie are my two most used (and loved) knives.

I'll throw the Delica 4 and Manix 2 LW in the ring for great lightweight EDC blades. Really, you can't go wrong with any of the suggestions so far.

If ever the military were made with a tip-up clip option I might consider buying one. Otherwise, no thanks.

The Military is great, but he already has a PM2, it's probably best to get a little variation first

I don't understand the rave about tip-up carry, I always found that I can deploy my blade quicker if I have it tip down as I can access the thumb stud/hole directly from my pocket as I am pulling it out

For me personally it's more of a comfort thing when holding the knife. On All my tip down knives the pocket clip gets right in my way and is just plain annoying. When tip up, I barely notice the clip underneath my fingers

I couldn't have said this better myself! I actually would prefer to carry tip down as it's a faster draw and less fumbling but the discomfort while in use far out ways ease of draw.

For me it's neither the clip nor the ease of "deployment". No offense to anyone who practices this for sd reasons, but I don't want to look like the guy who spends an hour a day in front of his mirror doing Wyatt Earp draws with his knife. ;). Personally I prefer the option of tip up because i often carry iwb and I like to attach a short paracord lanyard to which I occasionally attach my truck key. Doesn't work well if the lanyard hole is four inches down my pants. It always surprises me that the lanyard hole is almost never even mentioned in these "tip up" vs. "tip down" discussions.

While you do make a great point with that, the point is moot for me because I can't stand lanyards on knives haha. But that's just what works for me personally. Now, if I DID like lanyards? Then yeah! I'd have double the reasons to prefer tip up!!

If you're looking into the manix, I say just get one! The ergos are phenomenal with the extra finger choil on the ricasso. It's become my "ideal EDC" and it wont leave my pocket until there is something with better ergos and blade steel. I have 3 manix: 2 cruwears and 1 DLC; Cruwear hold an edge until eternity:thumbup:

I have decided that my next purchase will be a Manix 2 with DLC blade. Can't wait.

I prefer tip up on all of my knives but the Militray. Its the only knife I carry tip down. The way it sits in the pocket with the factory clip makes it feel smaller than it is, and I hardly notice it in pocket.

The blade shape/taper is about the only thing they have in common IMO, and the blades are very different because of size.
They are two very different knives other than Military in the name.
Even if they were close I would still get a Military and sell the Para if I had to, but I'm glad I have a few of each:p

Losd, you can't really go by what we think. As you can see we all have our favorites, and thats a good thing, but our favorite may not be yours.
I'm not sure if you have any shows or knife stores near you, but if so it would be good to feel some in hand. Good luck.

edit- nevermind the part just above, lol. I just noticed you've made up your mind. You'll love it !

Exactly!

Agree 100%. Tip up is a new fad. Spyderco made tip down for 25 years before tip up came along

I tried tip up on my Szabo, to try those new fangled knotted lanyards. Made it about a month and had to switch to the only natural way to carry a large Spyderco, tip down.

I have to admit I prefer to carry large models. Anything under a Police is dinky.
