I've been carrying my knife in an otherwise empty pocket. Anyone else?

In my case, it really depends on the clothes I'm wearing and the weather. I carry five items as a minimum (wallet, keys with torch, knife, SAK or multitool, phone). My usual pants have 4 pockets, and I don't like putting too much stuff in any one pocket. So my knife tends to share a pocket with my phone.

In autumn or winter, I've got more pockets available (jacket pockets) so my stuff is more spread out and I can carry larger knives. The same happens when I wear cargo pants, since they've got more pockets.

Front right pocket is always for my clipped folder and leatherman squirt at the bottom.

When I need the leatherman sometimes I push it up from the outside of my pants until I can reach in and grab it without putting my whole hand in the pocket.

Yeah, I guess that it is easier in the winter months. I was given a great "shooting jacket" (originally based upon a french model) with lots of pockets a few years ago : http://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=12EP

I carry a lightweight EDC unclipped exclusively in my LFP (weak side). I carry a Micra, a peanut lighter, and a AAA flashlight clipped to my RFP (strong side). They share pocket space with my keys. I keep an Eros in the external coin compartment of my ballistic nylon tri-fold wallet. That way if I need to take off in a hurry, I can just grab my wallet and know I've always got a knife on me. And I carry my phone in a holster on my hip. It's too big to carry in my pocket anymore.

One pocket, one knife. This makes total sense, to me.
But I know others who simply will not do this.

I carry my folder clipped to my back right pocket along side my wallet. That way I don't have to be one of those guys who's constantly taking his knife out of his pocket so he can fit his hand in. Plus, my knife never gets stolen by seat belts.

Doesn't that feel awkward sitting on your knife though?

I can't stand sitting on my wallet for long periods of time, let alone a knife. I tried it once with my mini grip and it just didn't feel right, plus I kept feeling up my a$$ because I felt like my knife was gonna fall out.:D

To each their own though:p

... does anyone else just dedicate a pocket for carrying a knife?

Always have. RFP has been a pocket-knife-only pocket as long as I've been carrying them (about 60 years now). 'Course, I don't carry much when I go out. Wallet in LRP, hanky in RRP, keys in LFP, knife in RFP. My Essential is a belt carry so it doesn't take pocket space.

No. I carry a slippy and it sits in the bottom of my pocket with my car key and whatever change I get during the day. When I do carry a modern folder I carry it the same way. I've had too many folders lifted from my pocket from inanimate objects to trust pocket clips anymore. Although when I carry a modern folder I don't put change in there. I've had change wedged between the scales and the blade before.

Scratches are character. ;)

I struggle with this as well haha. Usually it's phone in my LFP, SAK in RFP, wallet and skyline in RRP (just got a DF2 so it'll move to my RFP), and then my keys end up going in my LRP which is sort of convenient because they're easy to get to and won't scratch anything, but also sucks because sometimes they're annoying to sit on.

I also hate a clipped knife scraping my hand. I wondered how everyone overlooked it. It's one reason I've gone to slipjoints, one other being that I'm left handed.

I carry my slippies often in my watch pocket or back pocket with that pocket dedicated. Dedicated back pocket carry, especially at work is pretty handy. You just kind of reach back and there it is.

I also dislike sitting on my wallet (boy, I hate everything;)). It's actually bad for your back to do it too long you know. Strangely enough, I hardly notice a medium slipjoint back there.

I'm really neurotic about where I carry certain items, consistency is key. I only ever carry one knife at a time, which always goes into my right front pocket. Tip-up or tip-down changes depending upon the knife, but it always has to go into that pocket. The only other item I keep in that pocket is a Bic lighter. In the past I would dump coins in there as well, but I try to avoid that now because I've had dimes slip between the blade and liners too many times. My front left pocket is where I keep my keys, my phone, and (if it's close enough to the evening) I'll carry an LED AA Maglite in that pocket as well. I bought the accessory kit for that light for the different lenses, and along with that came a pocket clip. The pocket clip was useless the way it was intended to be used. What I've done is superglue the clip in place in an inverted carry position, so that about an inch of the butt end of the flashlight is sticking up out of my pocket. That's the only comfortable way I've found to carry that light, since it's so long and the front side of the light is on the bulky side. My left rear pocket always has a comb in it, this is also the pocket I'll use if I need to store small amounts of litter until I can find a garbage bin. My right rear pocket is where I keep my wallet. Since four pockets isn't really enough for everything, I try to wear a light jacket or a button-up shirt with a breast pocket whenever possible. This way I have a pocket outside my pants where I can keep my Camels, and maybe dump my phone if my pants pockets are feeling too crowded. If I have to carry my smokes in a pants pocket, they go into LFP and my iphone shifts over to RFP. I'd rather risk scuffing up my phone than allow loose bits of tobacco to gum up my knife.

Can't do that myself. Carry pistol in left pocket being a southpaw shooter. So knife and rest of pocket stuff goes in right and back pockets. Won't work for me....but good you can make it work.

I don't find other stuff to get in the way so much or vice versa...maybe cause I've been doing it so long I don't notice?

Many a knife has been lost whilst pulling something else out of a pocket hence the knife pocket shall carry a knife alone.

(I've never lost one that way but I've seen it on here a few times.)

I was fairly surprised a knife only pocket was common. I typically have my phone and knife in the same pocket.

My Zaan rides in my front rt-hand pocket. I also carry a small notebook and short pen in that pocket. Yeah, the notebook is NOT electronic. I may be a bit behind the times, but my knife is as good as any.

WIsh I could. Too much stuff, not enough pockets. And, I don't even think I carry as much as some people. I see some people's EDC loadout on here and think that I couldn't even imagine how they do it comfortably.

I feel kinda strange here, now. Let's start off by saying, wallet = BLP, Snuff = BRP. That is easy and where things get rough. I have a wadd of keys, enough that I was cautioned about wearing out the ignition switch on my truck by the service manager at the dealership when he handed them back to me. I have the keys on a biner and they go clipped to a belt loop, or waist if I am in shorts with no loops. I am right handed and everything seems to gravitate there. I carry a Djeep lighter, leatherman squirt, fenix torch, and change in my RFP. I also clip my knife to that pocket, unless I am working, where I usually wear bibs and put my knife in the breast pocket. But, I seem to have no real use for my LFP. I need to re-think things and try to train myself. Sometimes I throw my phone in there, but that is about it. When I'm at work I put the phone in left hand breast pocket. I don't have too many issues reaching past my knife after something, but I might have bigger pockets, since skinny jeans don't exist in my wardrobe.
