Drank all the Bourbon first, then the Macallan (the only Scotch that I really like) and most of the Irish. When I got tired of whisk(e)y, I moved on to the gin, and then the vodka. We've had lots of Whisk(e)y threads, but not so much on white liquors. So I thought I'd start one.

So here are my thoughts on vodka: Chopin. Quadruple-distilled Polish potato vodka. I've found this far better than Gray Goose or any of the other high-priced vodkas that I've tried (including Ketel One, Belvedere, Jewel of Russia, and the excellent Armadale that I'm drinking right now). Stoly's okay at best, and Absolut, which I thought I liked when I was in college, is down right nasty in comparison. I think I'd rather drink Popov (which is the best bottom-shelf vodka I know). Bison (Zubrowka) vodka is interesting, but not really my thing. My dad likes it, though.

And my thoughts on gin: Bombay Sapphire. Tanqueray is good and Tanqueray 10 is better, but neither noticeably better than regular Bombay, and nothing I've had comes close to Bombay Sapphire. Boodles, Beefeater, Gordon's and the rest are okay.

And my thoughts on rum: Pyrat Planters' Gold, 10 Cane, or Captain Morgan, depending on my mood. Not a really big Rum fan, though. Bacardi is undrinkable, except maybe as a mixer in a Long Island Tea or a Zombie.

And my thoughts on Tequila: I'm saving that one for Cinco de Mayo. I have lots of top-shelf brands to choose from (and one that you keep locked away), but I find Tequila considerably less approachable than Bourbon.

And on a side note, Absinthe. Real Absinthe. The stuff that can't be sold in this country legally, but that you can bring back from Europe. And I'm talking the good stuff too; not the Czech sh*t. Stuff that gets high marks among the Absinthe cognascenti. Nasty, nasty, nasty. Like drinking anise extract. I just don't get it.

I'm in college and not so hardened yet so all hard a just taste like burning to me. I'll take beer over hard alcohol thanks.

I remember those days. Back when rum and Coke was the only way to choke down rum. When you've got another twenty years and twenty pounds under your belt (or over your belt, as the case may be), you'll know what I'm talking about.

In the meantime, beer is good food.

Bundaberg huh? Never heard of it. I'll have to put it on the shopping list for when I restock the bar.

Belt??......I haven't seen my belt in 10 years......................Bombay Sapphire is my favorite gin..............Vodka is hard to disconcern...Iv'e had some costly that taste like cold rubbing alcohol. Maybe I should buy better than Walmart Plain Wrap.:D

Look who's talking. You misspelled "drink."

Hey I just came home from a three hour bike ride in the dark. The lows may hit 40 here tonight and I’m so dam cold I'm lucky I can hit the keys at all. This will be the first time that my post ride recovery drink will be a warm brandy!!!

I usually wouldn’t be drinking anything this late but things have been strange the past few days. Since I can’t comfortably go out it daylight yet, but I feel fine, I have been going out at night to get some exercise and do some grocery shopping. I do things like walk into a grocery store and put on sunglasses, I feel like a gopher.

I get to bed at about 3:30 a.m. and get up at about noon. When I do go back to work it is going to feel like I have jet lag. :thumbdn:

What's the problem with daylight? It wasn't eye surgery or something nasty like that, was it?

(Last time I couldn't tolerate daylight, it was a result of a cornea transplant.)

Yes it was a retinal repair. I have a few of them in my life but this was the one where they put a buckle around the eye.

The big drag is that I feel fine but I need to wear two pairs of sunglasses to go out in daylight, so I don't go out much. But I’ll stop putting drops in this week and that will help things return to normal. But now I have to go out at about sunset and ride my bike on dirt roads to keep my mood up.

I just got my cross bike back together and it is a blast to ride.

You be careful now, Tony G! Don't go all Vampire on us, hear?

Where did you get your Absinthe? I got a bottle from Canada but it was not the "good stuff". I am partial to scotch, whiskey and bourbon myself.

Hendick's Gin ir nice - but unlike all others...

Be careful with absinthe. I had a patient a few months ago that was drinking absinthe with his neighbor - real absinthe - the stuff that can't be sold in this country legally. After a few hours of drinking it his neighbor pulled out a gun and then bit the guy's nose off. It wasn't pretty.

As far as bourbon goes there is only 1: Pappy Van Winkle 20 year. End of story. There is a rye wiskey that is very good too called Templeton Rye.
