I've cheated..

I've never been a huge Spyderco fan. Great knives, just can't get past the aesthetics. I have a Manix II and have tried to like it, but in all candor, I've never used or carried it, just took it out of the box once, then put it back. Just keep taking my ZT's wherever I go.

However, I like the Southard. The blade shape is still a bit weird for me, but it looks functional and high quality. We'll see, but I just pre-ordered a 0566, and that may just fill the Southard role. I'd like to see the Southard first hand though.

I also have a CRKT Ken Onion Eros. Very unique little knife. Handle shape is almost the same as the Leek but much thinner with integral lock and Ti scales, and their IKVS bearing system. I figured I needed at least one premium knife in the small category. I think it only weighs about 1 ounce!

Have been thinking about the Ti Sage II. Like you, I don't particularly like that leaf shaped blade. I also pre-ordered the 566 so can compare it directly with the Southard. I love the Southard blade. It's very general purpose and use it in food prep all the time. The ZT 561, even though bigger, is not so great in that role. The blade is a little too thick and that flipper sort of gets in the way once deployed. But it's pretty straightforward (pun intended) to sharpen and maintain, and the 566 will be the same way. They are also a bit more "tactical" than the Southard, unless you modify the Southard's jimping which wouldn't be hard to do. I'm also looking into rounding off the G10 on the Southard so that the edges of the scales are the same on both sides, and replacing the clip with a Ti low-rider. The deployment of the Southard is the nicest of any of the knives I own, with the possible exception of a Zing blem I bought from Kershawguy.

I'd rather appreciate the knives than focus on brand loyalty. If I like it, I buy it. Never have to feel guilty of cheating. Works for me.

...maybe, maybe on you guys and my Kershaws and ZTs. I know some of us have mistresses, a CRK, BM, etc. Well I happen to have a few too, and I really like my Spydercos. Yesterday I ordered a Southard:eek:
It just seems so nice. It's like ZT and Spyderco had a love child, well maybe. So please forgive me, I will always have a soft spot for ZTs, they are what started my present day collecting.

I feel the same way. As far as production folders go.

Also I have some other brands that just make me appreciate my ZT's more.

I'm actually the opposite. Been into only spydercos and benchmades for the last 3 years. Decided to try a kershaw and now am hooked. Like the rest of you, now waiting on the 566 and 770. It's good to have variety.

I doubt there is a faithful soul among us certainly not me. Way too many great knives to be experienced.

Although I'm a die-hard "Kai-guy" I do spread it around a bit. This is the Kai pile

and here's a pile of BM, Spydies, Beretta, Gerber, Lionsteel, Boker and a few more Kai for good measure.

Well I got my Southard yesterday. It does live up to the hype. It just edges out my 0560 for top spot, fit and finish. This Spyderco is simply perfect.

Going to have to agree. I have mine in my pocket as I type. It's the perfect size and weight and has great ergo's, high end steel, smooth flipper, etc. I still plan on a 566 because I like variety. Where is everyone pre-ordering these? Dave?

I'm thinking about picking up a karambit, and Kershaw doesn't make any of those. For some reason they're either really really cheap or really really 'spensive.

Nothing wrong with having a well rounded assortment of fixed and folders. Just my .02¢

Aw, come on! Your advice is worth more than that... at least 2¢. That's 100 times more than you give yourself credit for. ;)

I am willing to forgive your cheating, but it's going to cost you. Just send me all those naughty other knives that made you cheat and I will take care of them for you.....

Seriously, I am a knife geek myself, and I have a long list of other makers knives that I want for my personal collection. The Southard and the Techno have been up there on my list for a while, but with the current political situation, all my disposable income has been going into gun stuff. So go ahead and cheat - just make sure you drag your sorry butt back home to Kershaw / ZT when you're done. :)

And don't take anything I'm writing too seriously right now - it's been a long day, and I'm getting kinda punchy!

It's fun seeing the moderators kicking it back and having fun......It's like seeing your teacher outside of school, and they're all chill and relaxed, and doing things that otherwise wouldn't be appropriate at school. And sometimes even cursing in my case :p
