I was doing some celebrating this weekend and actually devoted an entire day to doing nothing but having fun (very rare for me, as I work like, 2.5 jobs, or the equivalent thereof). Specifically, I went out into the woods and played paintball all day. It was freaking great. I'd love to hear your own paintball stories.

From left to right, college students Brent and Jeff, my friend "Trouble," me, and Brian (on whose property we played).

This is me, moving into the woods from the entrance at the back of Brian's yard. The shot was taken by Brian's wife, who was watching from just inside the treeline.

This is what the play area looked like. Smoke is from one of Brian's smoke grenades.

Brian and his teammate entering the woods to kill me and my team. I think the other guy is Brent.

Me celebrating after wiping out the other team single-handed.

I tried it once with some teenagers. They were faster, but I had better tactics: I would hide, wait, and ambush them.

:D

Off to Gadgets & Gear.

Hey Ken, nice to see you got a new ride! VROOM VRROOOOMMMM! :D

I tried paintball and liked it but my parents refused to give me any money for it. So that was the end of that. It's golf now and it's surprising how much money they're willing to give me, I feel kind of bad actually.

i have a few guns and love to play around my house, its on the pricey side if you dont have much to spare (like me) but it is sooo worth it if you get into it, i am freaking deadly with my ghillie suit and tippman A-5 RT invisible is the way i like it!

I love paintballing! It's a very diverse game, in terms of level of competition. You can be all-fire, gung-ho into it, or just go once every few months for the heck of it, or anything in between. It's an awesome way to get to know guys (and maybe gals, if they're interested) and to gat some foos! :p :D

Two words: low crawl. ;)

Get them to start buying you some Ti drivers,, get a really nice set of clubs and assorted crap,

Then sell the whole lot and buy a paintball gun!!!

Just tell them you were getting bored with golf and just needed to shoot something!!

If they give you a hard time,, tell them you want to get a Real gun..The paintball gun won't seem so bad then...

Seriously.. If you enjoy paintball or firearms..Don't loose that feeling..It's a Great,,Safe hobby...

I don't crawl. I walk and I shoot. My friend commented on it at my forum:

I had the distinct pleasure today getting my rear end handed to me in Paintball by my good friend Phil. I thought I would share with you all just how incredible this man was today.

The day started out rainy and cold. Phil showed up early - before everyone else in boots, trademark black "do-rag", and RealTree cammo. He did some early drills with my friend Brian while everyone else slowly showed up.

Once we all gathered, I teamed up with a friend and sent Phil out in the woods with two rookies. Brian and I had set up in advance to go out firing smoke grenades into the field and take them by surprise. Well that backfired badly. The wind blew back on us and smoked US out - allowing Phil and crew to waste us in no time.

We were undaunted. After a quick reload and paint wipe we were back at it. New teams, new rules... same result. We all walked off the field with little success. Each time- Phil got at least one kill. The target of choice for him... hands. We all got at least one round from him - directly in the hand during the day.

The best moment of the day was a 3 on 2 match with Phil on the short end of the stick. His partner ran out of CO2 and called out quickly. I watched in amazement as Phil just held out his gun and started calmly walking towards his opponents. Keeping two large trees offset in the oppositions sight lines, he calmly picked off all three of them in under 90 seconds! I was included in that 90 second exchange (thank God I wasn't the first one out).

Through the day, we all got shot, welted, dirty, tired, and eventually every one of us got our butt kicked by someone. It was a great way to welcome spring. Great fun was had by all....

I started playing paintball last year. My two sons and I go about every weekend. We play with stock class pumps because we're cheap and the pump guns are stingy with paint. We use Phantoms. They are accurate and can make shots that the 20 balls per second guys cant come close to making. We love paintball. Although, I'm not as young as I use to be and the morning after can be a little painful.

I used to work at the local field(you get to play for free and i was 15 woohoo) and we always had pickup games with the reff's after work on the lighted course. One day a group of marines came up and were (uncharacteristicly i would think) realy a bounch of loud mouths and bashed on the younger kids we call newbies. we asked them to calm down and they "wanted to be teir own team" and eventualy we split them up(against there wishes). as everything is closing up they saw my friend and i going to play and had some trash to talk so we invited them to play. we played speedball 6 on 2(it was going to be 1on 1) we slougtered em. We beat them so bad they bet us 20 bucks we couldnt do it again. We rolled over them again. they had another 20 and we took that too. these guys realy got pissed but we told them if they didn't have any more money they had to leave. we played every day and were both on "young guns" teams so they realy didn't have much chance. Now i like stock class as you have to use more skill with pump guns.
just read your poast five rings, i have a phantom too, I love it but my angel and both my autocokers are just as accurat. thos 20bps guys arent trying to make the shots you are because they dont have to. stock class is realy more fun imho and makes you a better player. then when you use a simi and can still make the one shot long ball you dont have to go out an spray. I use the same ammount of paint a day with my phantom as i do with my cocker, but the angel makes me triggerhappy.

Ive been an avid paintball player for the past 6 years going about twice a month in the warm moneths in NY. Now that i'm in Texas I joined the UT paintball teams and were working on becoming a flly school sponsored team by the university but right now they only recognize us as a club.
Paintball is a great sport and theirs a different game for everyone withing paintball whether its woods ball, speed ball, hyper ball etc... If you want to get into it, it takes a decent amount of money to start but thats nothing compared to what you will spend playing it. A case of 2000 balls costs about $35-$45 for average paint and more for better quality and I usually use that in 1 day. I would recommend this sport to anyone who's out for a good time and it also gives you that feeling of real war when your out playing in the woods which is pretty fun.

So is an activity like paintball really a piece of gadget or gear? Since we're discussing the activity and not the gear itself, I fail to see why it was moved into this subforum. The community forum gets more traffic and is specifically made for off topic discussion like this.

Paintball is a blast, I live and play in southern jersey, which is the home and the mecca of the sport. My older brother went through school with Gino P., who didn't invent the sport but made it huge, owns National Paintball, 32 Degrees and a bunch of other major brands. I was never in that click growing up, so it did me no good.

The only problem for me is that I like to play tactical ball in the woods and that style of play just isn't that popular around here. I dont get to go out as much as I would like.

I've always thought I would really enjoy paintball... but geez of already got to many expensive hobbies... :)

My friends commented on this same trend. I've only ever played paintball in the woods (on their properties in the country) so I have nothing with which to compare it. I certainly do enjoy playing in the woods. The idea of playing indoors on flat terrain sounds fun, but somehow cheating.

The only time I've ever gone paintballing I had a blast. It was in a cave around here at a place called Jaeger's, but I think I'd enjoy it more in the woods.

Playing indoors is fun for about 15 min., then the floor gets covered in paint and it gets very slick, you cant get your footing and you need to slide, baseball style, into bunkers. Guys who like this style call that condition "broken in", not for me.

Playing outdoor speedball is indeed fun but I really cant afford to expend 3000 balls in one 5 min. round, once you studder and try to conserve paint, you fail to cover your guy and your out and your team hates you, not for me.

I like to go into the woods and play for around 3 or 4 hours and use about a case of balls. I'm like a chubby, clumsy ninja sniper.

I've been playing on the Pro level for about 5 years now. I travel all over the country (and some out of the country) to play in the National Professional Paintball League (NPPL). We play on the airball fields, I don't play in the woods anymore.

Anyone like the speedball fields?
