Made a little detour into Bowie Knives, and a problem is developing. Do Bowies and Khukuries mate and make other silly things?

Male Bowie and female Khukri make a bolos...

Female Bowie and male Khukri produce sterile offspring referred to as a "Cold Steel Khukri shaped object". Vile and repulsive things...weak by nature...often destroyed within the first few months.

Some things Mother Nature never intended...

.

I thought the Male Bowie made wierd british kids??

Plug Warning!! You should pick up Dwight McLemores book on bowie and big knife fighting. It really is informative and fairly easy to follow once you get into the pace of the book.

The Randall Sasquatch is kind of a double edge Bowie meets khukuri... I love 'em. 13" blade, 3/8" thick... I wish mine was leather stacked handles like this one!

Email sent...is the brown truck here yet?

That *is* worthy of claiming shared parentage...

MBE, what is the weight on the Sasquatch?
There's a stirring in my soul to make a Big Bad Ass Bowie, the kind Rusty wanted the Rose to be but didn't get.
It'll have to be stock removal as I can't pound hot steel anymore and it will no doubt take a long while if I do start one, but at least the stirring in my soul is there, that hasn'y happened in a long while.;) :D

I've been sort of thinking 3/8" but am worried that it would be too heavy.:grumpy:

That depends on which warrior Uwinv you intend to give it to eventually Edutsi... ;) :D

My Sasquatch, #185, which I bought from not2sharp, weighs 29.6oz - more than my UBE! It's surprisingly well balanced though. It has a micarta handle and the same big double lugged guard. I just weighed my Rose- straight from Yvsa- and that weighs 28.2oz.
O1 steel, both edges sharp.

And besides you also have a Birthday coming up soon as well, hunh Uwinv? ;) :D

I've read so many SciFi, Fantasy, and similar books over the years I can't recall them all or who wrote them. Only a few have really stuck in my mind and damned few at that.

With that said I read a story once about a Big Assed Knife made in a forge in ancient times. Seems like the enemy of the Patriarch and his two or three sons were at hand and they had no way of escape except to jump into the forge with the knife.
Can't recall whether there was an incantation or not but the spirits of the men went into the Big Assed Knife.
Also seems like the Big Assed Knife was Evil too but can't recall.
The Big Assed Knife disappeared for many years but was finally dug up in an archeaology dig.

One part of the book told about a new owner who thought he would fix up the knife as it hadn't been completed of course.
He filed the edge, sharpened it, and cleaned up the knife in general removing small bits and pieces of it.
Later in the night the small bits and pieces went crawling back to the Big Assed Knife where the Big Assed Knife reabsorbed them into its original configuration.
I think then that the knife took wings or some other method of propulsion and went in and killed the man but my memory is incomplete and I just can't recall the whole story.:grumpy:

Usually stories like that get kept forever and moved around with me but this one is gone, kaput, nada and I can't even recall when it may have been that it was lost, a long time ago.:(
I sure wish I could remember the name of the story or the author who wrote it so that I might find it and get aquainted with it now that I'm much older.
Still think I would truly enjoy it now as much as I did back then, a long time ago.:D

It's hell when a man can be telling a story and say, "Well 55 years ago...."
and I can't begin to imagine the hell a man feels when he can say, "Well 85 years ago...."
It must be hell to live that long, a man's kids should put him away in his final resting place, not the other way around.:(

Well I'll be.:D That's not all that bad. Wholesale Tool, that has a store front here in Tulsa has Precision Flat Ground O-1 tool steel, don't know if it comes in 3/8" thickness though. A Bowie with a 14"-16" blade can be made from a 24" piece of O-1 and still have an ample handle.
I'm almost certain it can be bought in 3" width, take a lot of time on a band saw to get it cut out and ready for the grinder though.
And one that big would definitely get slab handles in order to have enough weight to somewhat balance the Big Assed Blade.;) :D
I'm just wondering if I have one more Big Assed Knife left in me. :grumpy: ;) :D  ;)

Will you send it out for het treatment when it is done Edutsi?

Depends on my health Uwinv. If I'm up to it I'll dig a trench in the backyard, put in an 1-1/2" pipe with several holes in it, fill it with the natural charcoal from Homeland, hook up the shopvac to blow, heat the edge and dunk it in tranny fluid. Piece o cake. ;) :D

If not then I'll see if Paul Bos or someone will do it for me, that is if I decide to do it and it ever gets done.
At least it would get me off my ass in front of the computer and put it in front of the grinder.;) :D

Wish I could take a week off and visit...we could knock out two of them in a week with you steering and me standing.
