I've got a new hero

You say that they should take a lower wage? Why because our country is full of illegal immigrants and no one will do anything about? Because all of our blue collar jobs have been sent to other country's ? Have you ever tried to support yourself or your family on minimum wage? Do you think you could afford your rent and utilities,food,clothing for yourself and your children? And add on top of that medications that keep you well without medical insurance? If you grew up like I did with a meth addict for a mother, and a dad that thought his new step children where more important then his own flesh, you might think differently. This is not some poor me post, but a reality check to some who think everyone had it like they did. I can't afford to put myself through school, while taking care of my children,paying bills ect. I now have to take care of my mother and my father in law. Nether of witch have a job. So It's not like I can just have momy&dady send money wen I get into financial problems. I'm on the edge of homelessness, every month It's a dissension of food,bills or medication. I don't leech of the government because It's part of what's destroying our country. But It's gettin harder and harder if you don't have a collage education to keep from going under. There is simply not enough good jobs to go around.

Amen Brother.
Most people who are homeless for the long term are mentally ill or are addicts. Both serious problems that are not being addressed in a comprehensive way. Anyone could become homeless given the right set of circumstances. Don't kid yourself. Just remember to count your blessings.

So I stated my opinion before. There are homeless and bums, which we discussed earlier. I still don't think handing out sleeping bags really helps the situation. Help them find a job or some form of counseling/etc.
I feel for people that have it rough, but I just am not into giving handouts for nothing.

I'm done posting on this. I think the focus of the topic has been shifted far off track.

Of all of the various types of homeless people, the living ones are best suited for counceling and make the best employees, IMHO. The ones who have died from exposure, not so much. And her plan doesn't force anyone to contribute anything to anyone, deserving or not. Personally from me, the guys holding cardboard signs begging money get a McDonalds sack lunch handed out, not a greenback.

I don't see why this is so hard to understand. Some us of sit around and do nothing. Some of us take care of ourselves and our famlies. Some people help out when they see a stranger could use a hand.

Well, wow! Why give that freezing old guy a bag to keep him warm? Take him home and lecture him on how to become a captain of industry!

Because we each have our own place in the world, our own skills, our own interests. The young lady is doing well with hers. Why gripe because she is only spreading warmth instead of good advice? Good advice is worth exactly what you pay for it, unlike these coat bags, which are valuable in themselves.

* quick kill my prayers to you and yours. They'll be that you always have enough to keep body and soul together. It ain't the size of the dog in the fight, brother...
* Esav, nicely nicely said.
* The Brain I enjoyed your background material. You have a way with words.
* Codger_64 I always learn something from you in every post. Been a fan for years.
* Absolut247 I kinda see your point, but I give people money for nothing anyway. I don't give "bums" money, I give people money. These are people we're talking about. Some people get my money and some don't, but either way there are a lot of people in my past who gave me opportunities, who even gave me money, whom I 'll never be able to repay. So out of gratitude to and respect for them, I pay it forward. I've given away a small fortune in the last few years. I don't think I'm even close to being caught up. I need to get caught up, but that's just me. Someone maybe gets a couple of beers for medicinal purposes, and Old Jake Marley knocks a couple of links off my chains. So flinging someone a couple of bones now and then, especially when money's tight like it is right now for everyone, is a win-win. That's how I look at it.

Thank you APE. I wanted to add what I could to this thread because she is from my state and because I had been homeless for a short time when when I was a young. I learned how things can go bad and you can have nothing to fall back on and anyone who wants to help people in an intelligent way will always find favor with me. It only takes a few bad things to make a person understand the short road to asking a friend if you can stay with them for a while if you have a friend at the time.
Everyone who says she is not really helping the homeless please tell me how you are REALLY HELPING THE HOMELESS ?
